5.0 out of 5 stars Veiled: An Inquery Into Life's Deeper Side, December 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Veiled (Audio CD)
Leah Andreone is an Indie's-Folk Rock singer who looks at life through the eyes of a wanton pessimist. Her unique lyrical style and sometimes shocking views on life come together in an unusual but intriguing way. With infectious tracks ranging from the deep melancholy of "Problem Child" to the near-giddy elation her top twenty hit "It's Alright, It's Okay", "Veiled" offers the listener a full range of experiences and so much more. 4.0 out of 5 stars Anger in a Nice Package, December 5, 1999

Since one must use words to describe music, think of Leah as halfway between Tori Amos and Jewel, but without the heavy spirituality. The music is well played and well produced, and Leah approaches each song with gusto. The two not-really-singles "It's Alright It's OK" and "You Make Me Remember" are both highlights, as are "Happy Birthday" and "Kiss Me Goodbye". Only "Problem Child" doesn't work for me. Great stuff from a great woman.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE VEILED!!, September 22, 1999

I disagree with those who said that it's hard to get into this CD the first time you listen to it. Maybe it's just me, but I loved most of the songs the first time I heard them. Both the lyrics and music are equally magnificent. If you haven't listened to the CD, or only heard it a few times, try to give it a chance!! In my opinion, it's one of my all time favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will speak to your soul in so many aspects ::smiles::, March 7, 1999

This review is from: Veiled (Audio CD)
When i first bought Leah's album * Veiled * back in 1996, i didnt know how to feel...her lyrics and voice are very unique ...its hard not to relate with her songs, well for me anyway. She reached to me in the very ways that i needed and like no other music had. "who are they to say" to me bashes stereotypes while " its alright, its ok" denys the feelings of depression and gives a sinical look on life . its the song "will you still love me" that always has been one of my most favorite songs . All of her music is extremely personal . Its immposible to listen to Leah without crying and feeling moved .She will help you bring your emotions and inner most thoughts to the surface. Her words like pure poetry , her soul and yours.....exists on this record . * try Leah if you enjoy the works of....Tori Amos , fiona apple , linda perry *

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Piece of Music, September 4, 1998

I got this CD for my birthday, having only
heard the song 'It's alright,it's ok'.You
will not like the CD from the first time
you listen to it,cause this are not easy
songs. But after a while the songs began
growing on me. Leah is an unusual singer
and I think if only more people knew her
music she'd become really famous.Lovely!

This CD is pretty awesome. Leah's lyrics are poetic, poignant, and biting all at once. Such simple phrases as "Mary's little lambs are now raised by wolves" gives a deep, provoking feeling to the entire CD. Perhaps not recommended during periods of extreme depression, the CD is otherwise one of my favorites. Leah's voice is unparalleled in the world today, and her style is uniquely her own. I recommend this CD without hesitation!

5.0 out of 5 stars Both smooth and gritty, December 7, 2000

"It's Alright It's OK" is the first song I heard by Leah Andreone, and it prompted me to buy the CD. I found out at first listen that all the songs are great; Leah Andreone has this lyrical grittiness that somehow doesn't sound rough...there is anger and depth and meaning in her songs that strike me as very real. The songs "Mother Tongue" and "You Make Me Remember" particularly stand out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alannis, step aside..., August 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Veiled (Audio CD)
I remember hearing It's Alright, it's okay when it first came out as a single and was hooked. But frankly, that isn't even the best song on the album. Witness Will You Still Love Me or You Make Me Remember. Her music takes on poetic, eccentric, angry and yet vulnerable tones, that totally speak to any woman going through life. If it were up to me, I would kick Alannis out of the Anger Girl throne and put Leah in her place. She's better, softer, yet totally in control. She shoves her opinions in your face and makes you get the point . It takes a few times to get into the album, but you'll be hooked. I can't tell you how many times it's occupied my cd player. My other cd's are getting jealous.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's alright it's ok for an album, August 7, 2004

Back in 1996, a lot of female singer/songwriters were breaking it on to the national music scene. There was Natalie Imbruglia, Heather Nova, Fiona Apple, Paula Cole (where is she now?), Merril Bainbridge, Alanis Morissette, and Leah Andreone. Unfortunately most of these female artists weren't able to sustain a career that lasted for more than 15 minutes. Leah Andreone was unfortunately one of the casualties to fame and notoriety in the music business. I absolutely loved her song "It's Alright, It's Ok". It is a fun, catchy pop/rock song. I bought her debut album "Veiled" because of the song. The cd had its hits and misses. My problem I felt was with Leah's vocals. Her unique vocals were a bit grating and annoying at times like on "Happy Birthday", which lyrically was just as terrible as her singing on the song. Thankfully the following song "Mother Tongue" (silly title) was much better. And for some reason, Leah's voice reminded me a bit of another then up and coming singer Heather Nova on this song. "Mother Tongue" is a beautiful ballad. Once I got past the silly song title, the song itself is a real joy to listen to. "You Make Me Remember" is also another stunning ballad. I loved the sparse acoustic melodies. Most of the songs on the album worked for me but then there were songs like "Happy Birthday" and "Problem Child" that I could have simply lived without hearing again. No matter what I still enjoy throwing in "Veiled" into my stereo from time to time.
