It warms your heart and awakens the soul.,

This review is from: Veiled Souls (Paperback)
I started reading this book late at night and could not stop until I had finished it. It is an amazing story about love, courage and faith. Furthermore, how we perceive others who are different from us (race, religion) in the same prejudicial manner as they perceive us, making us a mirror image of eachother. It demonstrates beautifully the great ironies of life that our prejudices towards eachother, due to fear and ignorance, will forever haunt us until we learn to accept and understand them.I absolutely love this book and advise everyone to buy and read it. ENJOY!

Gripping tale of courage,
By Jedibarrister (Georgetown) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Veiled Souls (Paperback)
The saga takes you from the innocence of childhood to the cynicism of adulthood, from Iran to Pakistan to Washington, and from love to loss to rebirth. The heroine's journey away from religious intolerance, through the wilds of the Middle East, to her new future cannot be missed.

Compelling!,

Compelling and genuine, Katrin's unbelievable story moved me to both laughter and tears. Her authentic viewpoint is reiterated in the language in which she writes. Through adventuresome tales and heartbreaking sagas, she provides an insider's view to the complexities of religion in Iran during her childhood, the complicated dynamics of her family's relationships, as well as a fresh insight into the social and political environment leading up to and through the Iranian Revolution. While falling in love with the main character, you will gain a unique and eye-opening understanding of Iran in the later half of the twentieth century. Without a doubt, this is one of the most fascinating memoirs I have read. I have yet to encounter anyone who has not walked away incredibly moved by the strength of her character as well as the fascinating account of her story.

If you are born and raised in the U.S., you will realize how much you have taken for granted as an American. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading biographical accounts or travel narratives or to anyone who simply enjoys learning about different cultures. I think this book would be an asset to any high school or college reading list.

fabulous,
This review is from: Veiled Souls (Paperback)
I read this book in less than 48 hours, I could not put it down!I could not belive all that Katrin has gone through in her life. One of the things I found very interesting was in the beginning of the book she tells of her childhood, and I felt like a little girl was telling me a story. As she grew in the book, how she told the story changed.I could not belive what she went through to come to the US. I was on Active duty during the gulf war, so to hear about that time from a different angle was a eye opener. I highly recommend this book. |
