Product Description

The multi-use Vello CB-500 Dual Shoe Bracket is designed to work with HD-SLR cameras, as well as most camcorders. This is one of those very frustrating things you run into once in a while. This is a simple, well-designed piece of gear that could be a big help while shooting with your DSLR style camera. It allows connecting a light and a microphone to the handle, making run and gun style shooting a breeze. However, there is one thing stopping me from using this...it smells terrible. That's right, it smells. Burnt rubber would be pleasant compared to what comes from this device. I have scrubbed it, soaked it, left it out in the garage for weeks...to no avail. Whatever they used to wrap the handle in, it is like a beast that won't die. If I brought this on a shoot, my client would question my sanity. Worse, your hand quickly starts to smell as well, because the handle is the problem. It's a real shame too, because I believe this could be a very useful tool.

I use the Vello CB-500 to attach an Atomos Ninja 2 to a Nikon D4. It works great! I did modify it, removing the top cold shoe and drilling a hole to mount a Giottos MH-1104 mini ball head. Giottos MH1104-330C Small Ball Head and Quick Release MH330C I also use a Manfrotto 323 RC2 setup for a quick disconnect.Manfrotto 323 RC2 Rapid Connect Adapter with 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate - Replaces 3299-Black

You can check it out on my blog.

One word of caution - the cold shoes will come off if too much weight is put on them.

This product is made of material that emits invisible toxic fumes and odor. The toxic fume and odor suggests that the product is dangerous to human health. The customer service representative (name withheld) at Gradus Group, the owner of the Vello brand, acknowledged that a bad batch of the product has landed in consumers hands. Gradus has done nothing to withdraw the product. I had brought my concerns to the attention of Amazon (name of Amazon representative withheld). Given that Amazon still sells the product shows that Amazon puts its profit before human health. I am very disappointed.

I purchased this bracket so I could mount an external mic to my Canon VIXIA HF R400 HD camcorder. It works great if you have a camera that doesn't have a hot shoe and you want to use an external mic or light. is easily adjustable for different size cameras, very easy to attach and is well constructed and good quality. I've used both consumer and pro video equipment for many years. This is a good value and a good price. Very happy with it.

I'm running two senshiser wireless mics on my consumer camcorder so I need a way to mount both receivers. This did the trick!
