These are soooo pretty, it's almost a shame to use them! Yes, they don't have straps and there is no way to add any, so you can't use them to lift up on the pedals, you can lift up when you back pedal to raise your pedal to a starting position, But if you just want to keep your feet on the pedals at higher RPM's or on rough roads without being Locked onto your pedals then these are for you. They are not for the fixed gear people. You do feel more secure without being locked in, very easy to get your foot on or off. Oh yeah, I have a size 13 shoe, I wear regular gym shoes and these fit just fine.

Well made but these clips require a minimum shoe size.

I wear a women's 9.5 - 10 (men's 8.5), but the tip of my toe doesn't reach these clips when in the correct position on the pedal - rendering them more or less functionless. I bought these as an elegant replacement for Zefal 'Christophe' (size s/m) half clips - which are very durable and effective for commuter cycling purposes, but do look clunky.

Kind of bummed these ended up being only aesthetic. Be great if Velo could also make these in a smaller size, or maybe they assume only guys would use these?

This is the third pair of clips I have purchased and without a doubt the best. The first pair was plastic and strapped which I purchased from a local bike shop. They had poor weight balance and were very difficult to get in quickly. The second pair was also plastic but strapless and stiffer; better weight balance, but on occasion at a stoplight I would step on top of the clip and it would stick to the pedal. Also these had a looser feel than the strapped clips.

The Velo Orange Chrome clips have great balance. Even if you don't get into them immediately in a tight spot, you can still pedal with power without dragging the clip on the ground until you get to a safer place to get into them. The weight distribution is naturally balanced to make them easy to get into. Chrome is certainly stronger, stiffer and heavier than plastic which makes the difference in the balance.

If you're going to use clips, these are the ones to get. Definetly recommended.

I had a pair of Delta half-clip (plastic) which I put on my mountain bike last year. When I bought an older Raleigh touring road bike this spring, it came with some old metal toe clips, and my husband begged me to find a pair for him. Thanks to Amazon - I found the Velo clips.

For those of us who really don't want/need special biking shoes, these are fantastic! They are more rigid and substantial-feeling than the plastic clips, but you can pull out of them with no effort. Feet stay snugly in place with the toe in the clip. The slots for the screws in the clips make it possible to slide the clip laterally on the pedal during installation, so you can get it where you prefer your toes to be. Haven't tried them with boots, but if you look up Velo on the web, you'll get more reviews and info.

Try these if you want some security but not the full-on clipless commmitment or hassle of straps.

These are made well its just they just make it over top of the shoes I normally wear which are hikers, if you wear a lower profile show these would be perfect otherwise the MKS half clips would accommodate you better.

I really wanted to love this. As a product itself, it's beautiful, simple and I want it to work. But it doesn't meet my needs because it's simply the wrong fit for my bike and can be downright dangerous. The clips catch on my fenders when making turns -- any turn, not just a sharp turn. I was hoping this would work since it adds to that "boutique" look. I'm just not comfortable riding around in a city where quick turns are my lifeline. It's back to regular pedals for me, then maybe jump the bridge to clipless. :P

I've always had full toe clips before, but got tired of getting my toes in quickly on my daily stop and go commute. With these my toes slip right in as I head off from the stop light! There's not a side strap so your feet aren't always centered quite as well, but this is a very very small issue. As for pulling up on the pedals, well, who are you kidding. Unless you're a trained road racer these will provide enough top support so that your feet won't leave the pedals. I got this brand because they were chrome and matched my 1970s 10-speed much better.
