2.0 out of 5 stars Makes good coffee but.....
Makes good coffee but we've had two in two years. They both cracked in the water tank housing above the filter basket and then leaked water all over. Also with finer coffee grinds it will overflow and gets grounds inside somewhere that continually redeposit themselves on your counter top for weeks after.

The Bunn Coffee Brewer makes great coffee, but there is design feature that may appeal to many. The water pours into the front of the brewer.
With most counter top coffee makers, the water must be poured into the back of the machine. This means the coffee maker must be pulled away from the overhead cabinets in order to access the water reservoir. With the Bunn, I never have to move the machine and I can keep it pushed back on the counter top.
The brewing time is so short that you don't need a programmable timer. From the time I pour the water in until I am enjoying my first cup is only a little over 3 minutes.
I should have bought this a long time ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Straight Scoop, March 4, 2011
This review is from: BUNN NHBW Velocity Brew 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, White (Kitchen)
NOTE: The following testing was done with a digital multimeter and a "P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor" available on this site.

Approximate heater values:
Keep warm element = 37 watts
Warming plate = 53 watts
Main element = 800 watts

I Tested continuously for 5 days and made 12 pots of coffee. During that time period, the pot used 7.71 KW Hours of electricity. At our base rate of 10 cents per KW Hour the total cost for 5 days was 77.1 cents, daily cost was 15.4 cents and average per pot cost was 6.4 cents.

When you fill the reservoir with cold water and close the cover a small valve in the bottom of the reservoir opens and allows the cold water to enter the tank. The cold water is directed through a tube to the bottom of the tank. The cold water displaces the hot water which is pushed up and out the top of the tank through a tube to the basket. There it is dispersed though the ground coffee into the pot. This process takes about three minutes.

As the cold water displaces the hot water the temperature of the water in the tank drops. A thermostat which senses the water temperature turns on the Main Element. The Main Element is rated at approximately 800 Watts and takes seven or eight minutes to heat the cold water in the tank to brewing temperature, then the thermostat turns the main element off.

The Keep Warm element which is wrapped around the outside of the tank is energized continuously. It is rated at approximately 37 Watts and keeps the water in the tank at brewing temperature.

The Warming Plate element is rated at approximately 53 watts and is fastened to the underside of the plate that the pot is placed on. It's function is to keep the coffee in the pot warm while you are consuming it. It is controlled by the switch on the front of the machine and you can chose whether or not to use it.

Initially this coffee pot made a lot of racket during the seven or eight minutes it takes for the Main element to heat the water but after a couple weeks of use the racket stopped and it is nearly silent now. This is our third Bunn pot of this type. The first two were the GR10 Models. Each lasted about seven years and both failed with a ruptured and broken main heating element. If the manufacturer hasn't done anything to lower the watt density of the main element, that will probably be the eventual fate of this one also.

Energy-wise I don't see much difference between this pot and our old "Mr. C" which we used while we waited for this one to arrive but I didn't test "Mr. C" so I don't know for certain. Coffee wise, this pot makes a better tasting brew and does it in about 3 minutes from "close the cover" to "fill your cup".

P.S. I don't work for Bunn or anyone else, I'm retired and "fiercely independent".

Enjoy your coffee!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bunn coffee maker for the home, August 9, 2007

We bought this coffeemaker to replace a previous Bunn coffee maker. We had the previous one for close to 20 years. We were very satisfied with it, but, it had begun to leak in the "vacation" mode. We were delighted to find we could purchase one in white with a stainless steel reservoir. The price at Amazon was less than anywhere else and we appreciated having it shipped free.

My previous coffee maker was the old version of this model. I love this one even more because you can put the water in and it doesn't come out until you turn the lid closed. Love it!

This is the best coffee maker we have had, very well built, fresh hot coffee in less than 3 minutes. Best thing we like about it and one of the reasons we bought it was because it is made in the U.S.A. That means alot to us.

I love this coffee maker. To me, a stainless steel internal tank is better than heating the water in plastic type tanks. (There is something about heating water in plastic that freaks me out...it can't be healthy drinking.) The coffee this product produces tastes great. It is quick brewing. I have had other coffee makers go belly up in less than a year. I think this one will last because I once years ago had a different Bunn and used it throughout the day and night 24-7 for sixteen years before it bit the dust.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Coffee Machine, May 7, 2011

This review is from: BUNN NHBW Velocity Brew 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, White (Kitchen)
I purchased the Bunn NHBX-W after researching hundreds of coffee machines and reading a lot of articles on how to make a perfect cup of coffee. I learned the first step in making great coffee was using fresh coffee beans and grounding them just before brewing. I learned that the water must be between 195-205 degrees. I also learned that a lot of articles preferred French Press instead of Coffee Machines. I like having a coffee machine.

I chose the Bunn NHBX-W because I liked the fact that it kept the water at 200 degrees and could make 10 cups of coffee in 3 minutes. I usually make about 6 cups so it takes about 2 minutes. (The minimum is 4 cups with this machine) The coffee comes out hot after brewing not scalding. You have to experiment with the coffee strength. My first batch was a little weak. I used Chock Full O' Nuts Grounded Coffee from the supermarket. I used the scoop that comes in the can. I believe it's about 1 1/2 Tablespoons. I used about 3 scoops for 6 cups. I used 5 scoops for 6 1/2 cups for my second batch and it tasted much better. Then I bought fresh Dunkin Donuts coffee beans. I grounded them with an automatic grinder and followed the recommended dosage on the package (2 level tablespoons for every 6 oz. of water) I tried 11 level tablespoons for 6 cups of coffee (Remember a coffee mug is roughly 12 oz.) The coffee was excellent!!! I can't wait to use premium coffee beans from a coffee house. I've only had the machine for a few days but if the coffee tasted this good, I plan to have it for many years to come...

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome coffee maker. Low maintenance!, February 19, 2011

This review is from: BUNN NHBW Velocity Brew 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, White (Kitchen)
Prior to this coffee maker, I owned the Cuisinart Grind and Brew DGB-300BK, which for awhile, I really liked. I never had any trouble with the coffee maker, but it got to be a real pain to clean out four different parts every time I used it. I did enjoy the fact that I was getting freshly ground coffee every morning, but after awhile, it was not worth the hassle.

Onto the Bunn NHBX...

This coffee maker does not grind your beans for you. It does not have a timer, a clock or a setting for how hot the warming plate is. It also does not show you how much water you have put into the coffee maker.

What it does do is make an awesome pot of coffee that is very hot in only a few minutes. It is also a Bunn, which from my experience working in restaurants, is the absolute standard in the business world when it comes to coffee makers. In my opinion, the $94 was well worth it for the quality of coffee that this thing makes for you every day.

If you are looking for a coffee maker with all of the bells and whistles, then this probably isn't for you. If you are looking for a coffee maker that consistently makes you a good pot of coffee and requires little to no cleaning, go for it.
