any one who got liteon dvd burner can tell u this
because lite on will burn this at maximum 3x speed without any error
but if u got i/o magic dvd burner then dvd will be burned at 8x with 75 % error
so they are actually 4x dvds with 8x marked on them
I have internal I/OMagic 16x DL DVD and one LaCie External 16x DL Drives. I tried with LaCie and the first two DVD works after verifying data with Nero Ultra 6. I used only 6x to make sure these work. Then, the rest of these Velocity discs got errors and even stopped working in the drive. I/OMagic is quite sensitive to generic brands but LaCie is more flexible. (By the way, LaCie appears as NEC.) It works well with two generic brands I tried so far: Staples brand and Teon also from Staples with few errors.
If your DVD drive is sensitive to generic brands, don't take a risk with this Velocity. It will be waste of your time and money, as well as your precious data. Very frustrating.
Update: After returning mine, I just got Fujifilm color DVD+Rs (30 color tower) on sales at Staples... ~10. Those are made in Japan, very rare to see in these days. Even though they mentioned 8x, Nero 6.6 let me use 16x. Those come with 3 colored cases, 10 each color, with label kit. THe best DVD+Rs I've ever used. Amazon should have these.

Never buy these DVDs even if you want to burn only non-essential data on them. The failure rate is very high (1 out of 4 sessions failed for me on a Lite-On DVD writer). Read morePublished on August 10, 2006 by Gyaani
