This sub is very high quality....it hits hard but also has a very "musical" bass note as well. I hate subs that just pound and are very muddy for lack of a better word. The best thing about this sub is the handy remote.....it makes a great speaker an even better value. Honestly, I don't know why other manufactures haven't jumped on this yet....maybe more have than I realize but its really a great perk to quickly and easily either mute the sub or raise or lower the gain based on the type of music you are listening to. Its quite an impressive looking piece as well. I loved this sub so much I ordered another one for the system I have in my shop (which is actually pretty serious) that I had formally planned on building some custom woofers for it. After seeing and hearing the Velodyne and getting the remote as the total "bonus plan" (never saw that feature previously), I just saved myself a bunch of time and trouble and took the plunge on a second one. Buy one if you can afford it....and just spend the extra money if you were looking at something a little less expensive. The remote feature alone is worth the price difference and you get the extra sound quality and beautiful cabinet for free!! BTW, if you were on the fence, know that this sub actually has a 1000 watt amp per the spec sheet that came enclosed. Not sure why its advertised here at "only" 600 watts. I read elsewhere this is the same 1000 watt amp thats in some of Velodyne's really pricey pro grade series woofers.

I was looking for a subwoofer to fill in the bottom end on my classical organ music collection. Organs produce the lowest notes of any musical instrument and a good subwoofer is essential. While this subwoofer is capable of playing very low notes, it's not particularly musical.

Despite working with the various settings, I could never get it to do anything other than rumble, so I returned it.

It's probably fine for home theatre, but I wouldn't recommend it for classical music.

I've had this Sub for over three years now. One year after I bought it the innards fried. I was able to remove the module and send it to Veloodyne for a full replacement (or repair). It has worked well since. It is definitely more sub that my house can withstand (and I have a very large living room) without the vases falling off the shelves. Sound quality is above average. The front vent allowed me to place it in a whole in the wall under the stair case. The remote is indeed handy.
