My system consists of a Sony reciever STR-DG720. I have been using all Bose for quite some time. Front speakers goto the Bose subwoofer, then to the dual cubes. The rear speakers are a second set of Bose cubes. I am also using the Bose center channel. The system was sounding great, but lacking something. I have always heard, Bose, all highs no lows. Well sad to say this is true. The bose sub just doesnt cut it, for music or movies. So after much research, and talking to people in the business, i purchased this Impact 10 from amazon.
First, it came in 2 days, as the 2 day option i selected promised, but i just wanted to thank amazon for that, they always have been great with shipping. But now to the point. I have a 15x24 room, with a 61 inch LED engine DLP on the 1 side of the room, and now the Impact 10 in the corner beside the tv. This sub FILLS the room. Music comes to life, it fills in all the mids, and lows i was missing. I listen to everything, i have tested it with RnB, Rap, even Country and Drum n Bass. Everything now comes to life. As for movies, all i can say is WOW. Transformers, the first 10 minutes, amazing~!, Black Hawk Down, AMAZING.
I would deffinatly recomend this sub to anyone debating purchasing a 10" sub. I had the Polk 10, the JBL 10 and this in my cart over and over for 2 days. After talking to my buddy who resells audio equipment, he assured me, spending the little extra would be worth it. You can get the Polk 12 for less then this Velodyne 10, and i would say your wasting your time and money. This 10 does a great job!. A+ in my book. I hope this review helps atleast 1 person!

I'm actually surprised at the lack of reviews on these units, but as they are relatively new, I guess that's to be expected. I recently had a Klipsch sub's amp burn out on me and decided to replace it with something a little beefier (It gave me 7 years of love). But as the outage was unplanned, I didn't want to spend a large sum on the replacement. I was looking at the Velondyne vx-10 which has had a lot of nice reviews and could be picked up online for as low as $140 or so, though all brick and mortars I have contacted sell them for ~$249. I would have picked one up even despite the odd color scheme, but found that Velondyne had released the Impact series recently, and what reviews I could find suggested that they had significantly greater output with the kind of sound quality you would expect from Velondyne. They looked much nicer too.
The connections are nice, I would have preferred the crossover frequency knob was a little more clearly labeled, but since there's a gradual roll off, it shouldn't have any significant effect if you're a notch off.
The bass is easy and smooth, and if you set things up correctly, I found it a tad boomy at first, but spend a little time adjusting things and found that it had a very pleasantly flat (in a good way) deep output. I don't have the kind of location where I can turn it up too much, and I think, perhaps, for my apartment complex, this woofer is ridiculously overpowered. But you can leave the volume down and still enjoy a nice pleasant "punch" even when it's hardly audible. I'll be moving soon, and I have a feeling even with a moderately large living room and some yard space, I'll always risk angering the neighbors if I ever leave the volume up to high.
Really enjoying the kind of bass I never knew existed in some of the music I had. And from what I hear, it does an even nicer job with cranking out the special effects in movies. I'm sure you can spend $1000 more and get something that sounds better, but for the price, I can't imagine there is much out there that rivals this...

I have this in my family room which is pretty good size (20'x 20') it's hooked up to a Denon avr-1910 with a 50" on da wall, let me just tell you,I was kinda on the fence about the size,(thought maybe the 12" might better fit the room)man was I wrong!! THIS THING HITS!! the 10" is perfect. I highly recommend! (the Denon too!)

The Velodyne Impact 10 sounds incredible. I currently own a Velodyne DD-15. At nearly 20 times the cost the DD-15 is amazing but I am equally as happy with the Impact 10's performance in the smaller room that it is housed in. In a 14' x 20' room this subwoofer hits hard at a moderate volume. It certainly does not have the boomy sound or hum that you would expect out of a sub in its price range. I would definitely buy this sub again. It also arrived 7 days earlier than promised. Nice Job.

I wanted two smaller subwoofers for my home theater set up. This was recommended to me and checked many reviews on line by users and professional review sites. this one consistently was rated high and Velodyne is known for their quality subwoofers. Boy was I blown away by the sound and quality of this. One probably was enough in my set up, but two gives you heart pounding base with a very tight clean sound. I would recommend this to anyone including very high end set ups. I doubt anyone could tell the difference in sound from this and a subwoofer 3 or 4 times the cost.

Some 14 years ago, I bought a Velodyne VA-810X for something like $630+ because it outperformed all the more expensive sub-woofers. They all produced lots of sub-bass, but the Velodyne was extremely tight and accurate. When the foam finally went on the Passive Radiator, and was starting to show signs of going on the main cone, I decided to just replace, rather than repair it.

After 14 years, the price of the recommended replacements, for the VA-810X were out of my reach, so I decided to take a chance on the Impact-10. It is NOT a sealed unit and DOES use a down firing port rather than a passive radiator. This design normally results in sloppier bass and some unwanted port breathing sounds. But, since I can no longer afford the "best", I took the chance. After all, it IS a VELODYNE. Well, to keep it short, the Impact-10 sure lives up to the Velodyne reputation. The sub-bass is strong, tight and accurate. If anything, this slightly smaller case outperforms the VA-810X that cost over twice as much 14 years ago.

I would prefer a pre-amp level output to provide the frequencies, not handled by the sub-woofer, to my Power-amp inputs, rather than the Speaker level output going through the sub-woofer and then to the main speakers. But, the end result sounds the same. Furthermore, if you're connecting this to the sup-woofer line-level output of your 5.1 system, for home theater only (not normal stereo) it makes no difference.

In short, Velodyne has lived up to it's name again!

When I upgraded to Definitive Technology speakers, I wanted to upgrade my sub.

The DT sub is $400 or $500 and is well reviewed. But I didn't want to spend that much.

And, I had previously owned a hand-me-down Velodyne sub that was pretty darn great.

I took a risk on this, their entry level sub, and I am really, really glad I did.

The DT's go pretty low for such small speakers and this little guy pairs up well with them and fills in the spaces when watching a great movie or listening to music.

I can tell crummy bass from tight, and I will take the Pepsi challenge with this little sub against anything priced in the $500 range.

Bass does not get more accurate than this, especially for less than $1000.00.

$500 subs may rumble more, as they may reproduce lower frequencies at higher volume due to larger drivers, but you have to know -- this thing is really tiny. It fits anywhere and really does a phenomenal job. Love it.

I do not regret my decision at all.

After many weeks of online research, I decided that this sub would fit my needs. My home theater setup includes a Denon AVR-1910, PS3, 2 jbl studio monitor bookshelf speakers, 2 jbl northridge series bookshelf speakers (surrounds) and a jbl S-Center channel in an apartment living room about 12x20 feet. For 10 year old speakers, these things are still awesome.

Anyway, I used the Audyssey setup on the Denon, and set my 5 main channels at an 80hz high pass freq. and the subwoofer at 80hz for the low pass freq, with the gain set around the mid point. The sub is in line with the front channels at about 12 feet from the prime listening area and the receiver has it trimmed at .5 db.

Out of the box I decided to play the sub at low volumes for about the first 5 hours, to make sure I didn't overexert the initial break in. I've now used it for about 20 hours and have it set where I need it, and I can honestly tell you, it's plenty strong for apartment use. It will produce rumble you can start to feel while playing Independence Day or the jet engines in Top Gun, but what is most important to me is the smooth musical (tight) bass in movie soundtracks like Miami Vice or The Nightmare Before Christmas.

I read somewhere that this sub will lose a little of it's composure when playing long heavy action type sequences. Even if that is true, I'm certainly not going to pay $400-600 for an incremental improvement in sound quality our loudness. At about $300, this subwoofer provides strong LFE output with a minimum of distortion. My former subwoofer was a 10 inch, 100 watt KLH that I bought for $100, and it showed. Sure it could hit the lows but they were too often sloppy or boomy. Now that I have my Velodyne, I feel like movies and music sound more controlled on the low end. This subwoofer does exactly what I need it to without aggravating the neighbors too much.

This product (Velodyne Impact-10 powered subwoofer) is awesome. I cannot imagine my home theater without this powerful bass machine. Mixed relatively easily with my existing home theater components - Bose speakers, polk surrounds, KLH speakers and Sony receiver.

My husband was absolutely thrilled with this gift, as was I. I can't say enough wonderful things about HDTV-Depot. They were so helpful, and they made sure the subwoofer arrived before Christmas, in spite of the little mix-up with my original order. This subwoofer (compact though it may be) is amazing - you won't believe the sounds you'll now be able to hear on your favorite CDs! I know our stereo will be getting much more use now, and we'll thoroughly enjoy it!
