Great subwoofer...,

This review is from: Velodyne VX10B Factory Renewed Black 10-Inch 150 Watt Powered Subwoofer (Electronics)
This sub is fantastic for the price. It installs easy and works flawlessly. The sound is warm and accurate, not "boomy" like my old KLH 250watt 12inch sub. I was weary of not having an On/Off switch. The auto on works even at low volumes and it stays on consistently, not switching on and off as my old junk did. Don't let the only 100watt rating fool you, it puts out 100 clean watts and rocks the house. It also has a cool feature with the speaker level (high level) inputs filtering (crossover) the low frequencies from the music signal which lets the sub do all of the work and saves your main speakers from abuse. Allowing a basic stereo system to be bi-amped. Other features include a variable pass crossover, gain control and LED stand-by/ on indicator. It also has low level RCA type inputs and phase switch. Velodyne rocks!

Going Back To The Bassics,
By Jeff The EMT "Jeff" (McHenry County, IL) - See all my reviews

If you're looking for a great subwoofer at a great price, stop right here!! After hearing this subwoofer at Circuit City I thought right away, this is the one. Even though it is a 10" driver, it produces lound sound that isn't boomy and the sound quality is amazingly clear. The Polk Audio subwoofers they had were almost double the price for a 10" and 12" with 500 watt ratings. Don't be fooled by the 100 watt rating. It's a clean and powerful 100 watts. Even if it's at low volume and low bass level, it's still incredibly clear and tight. I'm planning on moving my home theater set up into the backroom of my basement which is a 14x14 size room, and even now with it being in the front of my basement with about 25x25 it still produces clean sound. Here's a list of pros and cons of this subwoofer Pros: +100 watts +37 lbs (It feels heavy which usually indicates they're not skimping on amp power) +Clean, tight, powerful bass. Not boomy like other subwoofers. +Kevlar driver +Auto on (even works at low volume and low frequency!) +Beautiful design +Easy to use +Cross over feature Cons: -None If you buy this amp, you'll also want to get a cable for it. I recommend using a digital coax cable because they are durable, have better shielding than stereo cables and work fantastic. Velodyne beats all the others!!

Quality sub for the price. I am very happy. Music and movies both sound so much better now. It doesn't sound boomy to me in an 18'x18' room with hardwood floors. It does make the bass in movies and music come out much more clearly. I never hear any buzz from it during times when there is no sound or when we are watching something with little to no bass.Caveat: I'm no audiophile, and this is my first sub.

Awesome Sub,

I was skeptical about this sub when I looked at the advertised price; I was advised by an A/V professional to get the biggest and best sub money could buy. I choose the VX-10 after reading all the reviews on this site. In the store the sound was solid, rich and tight, but I was wondering what it would sound like in my home atmosphere with my odd shaped size living room.Out of the box the sub was so easy to set up that this little petite woman did it in less than 5 minutes. The sound coming out of my 5 speakers was awesome. I tweeked some of my speaker settings to get an even better sound. This sub has tight, smooth and clear bass. Velodyne produced a quality sub that not only most anyone can afford but you can be proud of how it enhances your listening experience from all of your components; I highly recommend this sub!

Looking for a way to give your older system new life? Well look no further. It's a good thing my 35 year old Marantz has no sub out as I wouldn't have discovered how great the speaker-line level connections on the VX-10 work. Speaker-line level connections mean you run your left and right speaker mains to the sub with speaker wire. Then the speakers are connected to the sub. With this connection the lower bass is removed from the amp and main speakers, enabling them to do a better job reproducing high frequencies. In essence the system becomes bi-amplified, gaining improved power and headroom. As a result my bookshelf Athenas sound incredibly better. The bass on this little gem is clear and strong and it has no problem reproducing the low organ notes of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. I also bought a second VX-10 for my bedroom 5.1 system and it excells in that application as well and I still only need quarter volume. For the price I paid ($175 )nothing comes close.

Did a lot of research on forums and web searches and decided on the Velodyne VX-10! The reviews seem to be extremely positive, both professional and amateur so I decided to bite the bullet! It was in my budget which was between 150-200 and the Velodyne name is synonymous with high quality subwoofers anyway. Well this baby lived up the Velodyne name!!This baby won't shake the rooftops down but it is damn powerful and coupled with my fronts can really make the floor shake! It's awesome in a HT set-up and listening to "The Incredibles" final action sequence is just pretty awesome! With music the bass is just right without being overpowering and it blends so nicely with my set-up!! I got a great deal on some Swan speakers (Floorstanding speakers) and this woofer just does the heavy lifting with absolute ease accenting my fronts with great ambient precision!! The build quality is also so fantastic! What else can you expect from Velodyne! And this sucker is heavy as hell!!! Heavier than my L/R front speakers and they are pretty damn heavy!!! Get this baby, highly recommended, especially from a company that specializes in subwoofers! Yes it's not their high end, but their low end is just as good!! This is a great subwoofer!!

First off,I am by no means an Audiophile and/or expert on audio equipment - so my opinion may not be of much value to those with more developed tastes. However,I feel so strongly that I received an excellent value I felt inclined to share none-the-less.My objective was to enhance my two channel stereo audio system with the bass that a subwoofer obviously provides.I wanted to hear this enhancement without blowing glass off the wall,or receiving angry response from neihbors next door : let me say, this truly brought my music "to life" like I hadn't experienced before! I am listening to recordings 20 plus years old,and it almost sounds like the musicians are playing in the same room as I!And the price? Shop around, subwoofers aren't cheap - this unit is selling for a fraction of what others retail for. In summary, for my needs I don't know how this could possibly perform any better.I just wish I had invested in a quality sub years ago!

What a GREAT sound!!,

This review is from: Velodyne VX10B Factory Renewed Black 10-Inch 150 Watt Powered Subwoofer (Electronics)
I love this thing. Very true sound - not just the "thump, thump" you get from other units. I thought the pricing was very reasonable. You could spend alot more, but I don't see the point for a normal sized room. Truthfully, I do have the thing capped out, but it fills the 20'x15' room nicely and rattles everything that's not nailed down. You would need one with more volume for a bigger room. This replaced a small powered Sony one that I actually had for my audio system and stole it for the surround system when I got my plasma TV. I missed having a sub-woofer on the stereo and broke down and bought the Velodyne for the TV - it was a good move - this blows the Sony away.

Most of the reviews I've read on this product I would agree with. It's perfect for a non audiophile person or family whose interested in getting an "experience" of what subwoofers can do for movies and music. It can be improved, slightly, by adding spikes to the bottom and a good interconnect. The difference between this and more expensive subs is better clarity, extension and distinction of bass instruments and sounds. All in all, though, a good safe choice and a bargin at the price.

Large Room with a Large Boom!,
By
This review is from: Velodyne VX10B Factory Renewed Black 10-Inch 150 Watt Powered Subwoofer (Electronics)
I was quite concerned about comparing money versus "boom", but after finally making the choice after a lot of research I was extreamly please to hear and feel the sound that came out of the Velodyne VX-10. I have it connected to a new Sony DG 1000 Receiver(same as the high end ES 3000!!!), also highly recommended after tons of research comparing, just ask my wife. All said and done this sub clearly filled my 20 x 30 Living/kitchen room with tight booming bass that every human should have in their house.Upside: inexpensive, great tight bass, and compact size. Downside: no LFE input, I used the LFE from the Sony into one of the RCA inputs, and it works fine. |
