5.0 out of 5 stars "And When He Falleth" ~ Gothic Opera For A Post-Christian Age, , January 12, 2007
Liv Kristine's angelic soprano voice counterbalanced by the gruff, demonic refrains of Raymond Rohonniy work together perfectly in the Theatre of Tragedy -9 track- CD, 'Velvet Darkness They Fear.' Unlike many other Goth bands that rely too heavily on their female vocalist to keep their audience involved, Raymond somehow manages to bring his discordant vocals into an adversarial, yet complimentary relationship with Liv's ethereal incantations. Truly light and shadow have become one.

Dark, Haunting, Unrelenting, Erotic and Beautiful. Everything you could ask for from a Goth/metal band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best gothic metal you'll hear, now or ever, PERIOD., March 12, 2009
Theatre of tragedy (pre-pop style change) is by far, my favorite goth metal. Liv Kristine has one of the best voices i've heard in music all together. The ambience of this album is creepy and sometimes motivating. Some tracks are great to just sit back and relax to. It is one of my biggest musical disapointments, ever, to see Theatre Of Tragedy go mainstream and take the "pop" techno route. Their best work and, in my opinion, their only listenable work is before the album Aegis.

If you want to hear Liv Kristine's voice at it's best, download the track "A Distance There Is". This song speaks volumes and should have won awards, in my opinion. Great piano and very relaxing.

I am a very experimental music listener, and I enjoy all types of music. This band, by far, is one of my favorites of all time, regardless of genre. A diamond in the rough that deserves much more credit. Give this album a try and you will not regret! It was very disapointing to see the members go their own ways, and their genre change to techno pop rock. I hope one day a band can match their authenticity and originality. It is very doubtful. Theatre of Tragedy will remain legends untill then.
