I've got no common sense, and neither has nobody else (but read my review anyhow!),

This review is from: Velvet Donkey (Audio CD)
The title sums this one up pretty well folks; this album is both easy and ungainly, smooth and rough around the edges, incredibly soft and soothing and abrupt at once. For Cutler fans who haven't gotten around to purchasing this one yet, there is no excuse for further hesitation. For those of you new to Mr. Cutler, this is likely as fine a place to start as any.
This album is positively sublime. Cutler's creativity, wit and insight into humanity is truly one of a kind. His songs, poems, jokes and stories somehow manage to be incredibly funny, touching, bizarre, melancholic and wistful. A surreal streak follows through all of his creations, whether they are based on real experience or entirely fictional. Cutler, like many a great "genius" has retained his sense of child-like wonder, and easily recaptures and makes plain the awe and bewilderment with which a child observes the world. Velvet Donkey and Cutler's other works demonstrate the true value of combining entertainment with real substance. This album always gets me laughing, thinking, reflecting and feeling warm and tingly. Who wouldn't want that? |
