Book Description

February 1, 2005
"Sex is poetry. It can be a song, a verse, like music, melodious and rhythmic. Poetry is passion—direct or lettered with illusion. When given as a gift, poetry is romantic, beautiful, even chivalrous. It can serve as a definition of thought, a gesture, a move. It can even be foreplay."
From the foreword by Michele Zipp, Editor-in-Chief, Playgirl Magazine

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Erotic Poetry, February 15, 2005
By
Erotic Collector (Santa Barbara, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Velvet Heat: Erotic Poetry for the Carnal Mind (Paperback)
This is a fantastic anthology of erotic poetry from some of the hottest writers of the genre. Rachel Kramer Bussel's prose poem "Looks Can Be Deceiving" sizzles. Alex Mendra's "Sex" and "Justified" are sensually splendid. Jamie Joy Gatto is "Sex Incarnate." Lawrence Schimel has several hot pieces in the book, including "The Frog Prince." Shanna Germain shatters misconceptions with works like "How do you make a Screaming Orgasm?" and "Letter to my Ex." This wonderful book is packed with poesy that covers a broad range and depth of the erotic/love poem genre. Poets in this collection come from all over the world: Holland, Paris, Africa, Spain, The States, and Germany. These wonderful writers have been nominated for Pushcart Prizes, been Poet Laureates, and have had work published in a variety of books and magazines, including: Ploughshares, Apalachee Review, Best Women's Erotica, The Random House Treasury of Light Verse, Suspect Thoughts, Clean Sheets, and ERWA. A great read that can be shared intimately with someone you love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious Erotica for Everyone, March 8, 2006
By
This review is from: Velvet Heat: Erotic Poetry for the Carnal Mind (Paperback)
Velvet Heat is one of my favorite little poetry books. I've given it as gifts to friends (and girlfriends) several times. There are so many poems in this book that I adore: Sex Incarnate by Jamie Joy Gatto. Silk by Gwendolyn Joyce Mintz. Shane Allison's The Most Sensational Bartender in the World. Rae Pater's Nightclubbing and Desire Incandescent. These aren't old-fashioned poems, but new and youthful and filled with erotic thoughts, desires, and emotions. Some are touching. Some (such as Living Under Richard and Catherine by Michelle J. Pinkard") are humorous. Some stay with you for days, such as Letter to My Ex by Shanna Germain and "All that I can Remember" by Sylvie Russell. Like the foreword says, "Sex is poetry..." and this fantastic little tome proves it. Plus, the cover is intensely beautiful. The picture on Amazon doesn't do it justice. It looks like a painting. From the first poem in the book, "Approaching Climax" by Renee Carter Hall to the final one Andrea Miller's "Full," I was hooked.

1.0 out of 5 stars Velvet Heat: Erotic Poetry For the Carnal Mind, March 8, 2006
This review is from: Velvet Heat: Erotic Poetry for the Carnal Mind (Paperback)
The title leads one to believe that this might possiably be a wonderful page turner, filled with "erotic Poetry", but as I read through these poems, I was very disappionted. I own many erotic poetry books, and found this one "not" erotic at all. These poems didn't grasp my intrest, nor provoke thought. This to me, is indeed the one of the worst displays of erotic poetry I have ever read. The poetry having no meter, nor rhythm.
