Kinky as you wanna be,
By OOSA Online Book Club "O.O.S.A. Gets It Read!" (World Wide Web, USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: The Velvet Rope (Paperback)
Brenda Thomas returns with another erotic literary rendezvous. Tiffany Johnson has gone into business for herself with Teaz Entertainment. At what should be a joyous time, things come crashing down around her as she learns her fiancé and sister know each other a little too well. Still reeling from the shock, her personal life spills over into her new business venture and vice versa. She doesn't know if she's coming or going or which way is up or down as she delves deep into a sexual abyss.
While the sex scenes were hot, that alone couldn't make up for a just okay story. The Velvet Rope was by no means a bad book, but it doesn't begin to touch the momentum of Threesome or even Fourplay. Ms. Thomas seems to have veered off course, but I hope not for long. Reviewed by: Toni

PURE JUNK; nothing erotic about this book,
By Joey N. Mikey (Windsor, CT.-USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Velvet Rope (Mass Market Paperback)
One can read any porno magazine and the descriptions would be identical to those found in this poor excuse for an "erotic romance". It leaves NOTHING to the imagination; written with a high school vocabulary and the literary ability of a pubescent male (or 'nigga' as so often used in this book). Don't waste your time..there are so many truly talented authors to read...perhaps Ms. Thomas should pick up a book and learn how to write of a class she clearly aspires to but is aeons away from attaining.

Tiffany - self destructive???,
This review is from: The Velvet Rope (Paperback)
The only way I read this book is because it was the book of the month for my book club. I admire a strong business-minded person, and Tiffany started off in this role, then floated through the story until the end trying to figure out how to keep her business afloat. She behaved more like the youngest child in her family instead of the oldest. She caused the broken relationships within her family by not waiting on proof from one encounter with her fiancee, Malik, with her sister, Kamille. She also had self destructive relationships with G-dog and his father, Gregory Haney II (and Leila). Tiffany was not grounded and chose alcohol as a refuge. Her nightclub was a success in spite of Tiffany, but the end led you to believe that she is not satisfied with a happy ending and is headed for more self destruction by starting a new business and maybe having another love encounter with the dishonorable Gregroy Haney II.

Great Story!,

This review is from: The Velvet Rope (Paperback)
Tiffany's dream has finally come true, to open a club in the downtown area of Philadelphia. Tiffany and her fiancee Malik accomplish their goal and are looking forward to becoming husband and wife in the near future: however, there is a dark secret that can destroy Tiffany and her fiancee. While preparing for the opening of "Teaz Entertainment" Tiffany meets a lot of people including a politician and his son.
Alot of planning, networking and strategizing went into the grand opening of Teaz and Tiffany does not want anything to go wrong. In the meantime, there is a blow out between Tiffany, her sister Kamille, and Malik, which changes the entire climate. The club will still open, however Malik and Kamille is out of the picture for now... Tiffany is stressed out due to the stressful situation she is experiencing which prompts her to date Greg (G-Dog) the politician son. Well, this is where the story gets gooooooood!!!! Who is zooming who? Great story Brenda, you really put your heart into this one! Great Work!

Did we all read the same book?,
This review is from: The Velvet Rope (Mass Market Paperback)
I can't believe we all read the same book. There is plenty of edgy AA erotica out there without having to tolerate this one.
The main character has NO development except for tantrums and self-discipline that would compare with a preschooler. There is no explanation about how she manages to hook the Harvard Law guy -- in real life he'd run fast from this girl. She appears to be unlikeable and self-absorbed; guess what, author, only pretty and hot gets you nowhere. No romance here. Just some fairly-well written sex, some drugs, and *nobody* you'd like to meet in real life. Went straight to the trash can. I like my fiction to have somebody to root for.

Trying to grab a hold of the velvet rope,
By
This review is from: The Velvet Rope (Paperback)
From the author of Threesome and Fourplay, Brenda L. Thomas is back with another erotic journey in The Velvet Rope. Thomas brings to life Tiffany Johnson, a street smart publicist, who decides to launch Teaz Entertainment and open a club making her the "Queen of Philly".
Tiffany teams up with her fiancé Malik, sister Kamille, and her friend DJ Essence to open a top Philadelphia nightclub, unfortunately she finds out Malik and Kamille had an affair and may share another secret as well. With great feelings of betrayal and vulnerability, Tiffany begins making questionable decisions which take her on an erotic journey that leads to the danger of losing her dream and her life. This novel is full of notorious "sexcapades" that left this leader blushing. Unfortunately the storyline is not as hot as the sex. Tiffany's decisions do not always make sense and sometimes seem irrational. However I can say there is enough meat to keep you reading. As a fan of Brenda Thomas, I still believe Threesome is her best, but The Velvet Rope would be a good read on a nothing to do lazy day. Kotanya APOOO BookClub

Life In the Fast Lane,

Tiffany Jones is "IT" when it comes to being at the top of the world - she on the cutting edge as a publicist, surrounded by a loving family and engaged to a top-notch attorney. When she steps out on faith to open her own nightclub called Teaz, she pushes the upper echelons of success, yet she is the essence of professionalism and poise.. With her handsome fiancé, Malik and sister, Kamille at her side, as business partners, Tiffany is taking no prisoners. But just weeks before Teaz's premier opening, a Pandora's box is opened and Tiffany careens out of control - not only does it damage her business relationship with Malik and Kamille, but their personal lives as well. Tiffany becomes entangled with a melee of shady characters and seemingly loses the last ounce of good sense she has left. Will Malik's strong perseverance and nurturing love be the safety net to catch Tiffany? Will she be able to re-build the bridges she tore down with her erratic behavior to save not only herself but her club and her sister as well?
You'll definitely have to get your hands on THE VELVET ROPE! Fast-paced and drama-filled and just plain ol' good, this book will draw you up into the plot. Tiffany becomes a sister-friend who you just want to reach into the pages and shake some sense into. It really leaves you wondering how someone so savvy can get caught up in the scandalous events that unfold. It just goes to show that everything that glitters ain't gold. Ms. Thomas uses wonderful imagery, flowing prose, and hot sex scenes combined with some unsavory characters to put you right in the throes of the action. The manner in which the book ended really had me wondering if we wouldn't be hearing more about Tiffany and Teaz in the future. THE VELVET ROPE is one of those books that once you pick it up, you won't be able to put it down. Reviewed by Nedine of The RAWSISTAZ™ Reviewers |
