A fullcolor picture CD, it contains explicit pornographic/horrific cover art & photos inside the booklet. 40 minuteslong, the album is intended as a ritual comprised of sixparts (tracks to us humans), including 'Ebony Dressed ForSunset', 'The Forest Whispers My Name' and 'Queen Of Winter,Throned'. The full title is 'Vempire Or Dark Fairytales InPhallustein'. A Cacophonous Records release.

There are two CD's like this that are extremely similar. There's this CD which is "Vempire" and then there is the other one, "Vempire or Dark Faerytales in Phallustine". Get the latter. It has an extra track "Ebony Dressed for Sunset" which is a much better beginning track than "Forest Whispers my Name". Not to mention they lead into eachother so I can't understand why they would remove it from this album. Just so you know, the CD with the extra track on it is very hard to find, I had to import mine from a seller on Ebay. Now onto the review...
I am writing this after their latest release, "Damnation and a Day" - which I love. However I still find myself going back to this CD. There's just something about it that I never get tired of. And it's because of this that I felt compelled to write a review. I think every COF fan should buy this CD. It's very hard, in most places it's very fast. It's not like the Cradle of Filth of today, but equally as good. Not to mention it has the all-time fan favorite, "Queen of Winter Throned". My favorite however is the Intro ("Ebony Dressed for Sunset") into "Forest Whispers my Name". Get this disc if you can't possibly find "Dark Faerytales in Phallustein". It's worth it.

What away to make an EP... This is so complete it really stands alone. This contains perhaps the most varried and complete sound "Cradle of Filth" has made to date. "Cradle of Filth" brings punk, thrash and goth to black metal and has done so now for some years. Thier variation and sound were at an extremely creative point here in Vempire. You have some quick songs on here that just jam with great melody and then you have 2 very solid Epics to make this album unfailing in its power. The use of (my guess) 2 or 3 female background vocalits adds a sensuality that is missing from thier later albums and gives Vempire an Allure on its own entirely(however "Cruelty and the Beast" has nearly the same strength in other areas).
If you like Cradle of Filth this is the way to go to see what mastery they can accomplish. An experienced fan of extreme metal but a very recent fan of Cradle of Filth (myself) found it easy to put an end to my criticisms to this band especially after this little monster of an EP. Second to this would be (as previously stated by others) "Cruelty and the Beast" which is a great solid album as well. (follwed in a biased order by Dusk and Her Embrace, Damnation and a Day, Principle of Evil Made Flesh)

First off I want to clarify and end this argument seeings how I am always right. This EP is entitled V Empire, not Vempire! Ask Dani Filth himself. Or better yet, read the lyrics for "Ebony Dressed For Sunset", he says it as plain as day. Or even better yet, it is written on the back of the case. Damn I'm good!!!

Anyway, this EP is insane. The opener "Ebony Dressed For Sunset" as mentioned above is heavy as Hell! Then follows the remake of "The Forest Whispers My Name" done with more fury and power. The the epic & grandiose opus "Queen Of Winter, Throned"!

This song is over 10 or 11 minutes, I can't remember. But it goes from heavy riffs to thrashy speed to progressive changes. Absolutely magnificent!!! "Nocturnal Supremacy" has a very "The Forest Whispers My Name" feel in my opinion. Heavy and fast. "She Mourns A Lengthening Shadow" is a great instrumental track and changes pace from the rest of the album. Then you get bitch slapped again by "The Rape And Ruin Of Angels (Hosanna In Extremis)" which ends very dramatically with writhing screams & moans of angels being raped. All in all this is one of the greatest EP's ever created!

This album may be short, but this album really proves the theory "Quality over quantity". The opening track "Ebony Dressed for Sunset" is a rather brutal opener that sets the stage for the next five tracks. The next track "The Forest Whispers My Name" is a re-recorded version of the original song on TPOEMF. In my opinion the original version was better but the remake is still good. The next song is just genious, "Queen of Winter, Throned". This song is a total epic masterpiece, it contains everything that you have come to expect from Cradle. This song clocks in at over ten minutes and it keeps you interested the entire time. Dani Filth's vocals are exceptional on this track, and the entire song is just perfect. If you call yourself a CoF fan and haven't heard this song either download it now or buy this CD!! The next track, Nocturnal Supremacy is a rather brutal black metal song, that is great for headbanging. Track 5 is a great instrumental track that sets the stage for the final song, The Rape and Ruin of Angels. In conclusion, this is one of Filth's best albums, buy it just to hear Queen, of Winter, Throned.

Although the phrase "they are nothing if not consistent" is used widely for any band who have released great album upon great album, I wouldn't use it here. Why? Because consistency is merely one of the reasons why I love Cradle Of Filth. This is my favourite release from the boys in black and it still blows me away whenever I hear it. Don't be put off by its shortness (6 tracks, 37 mins long), it's worth every penny. Although it's not quite as dramatic or well-structured as later releases, it makes up for it with unforgetable melodies, tortured orgasm choruses (their words not mine) and atmosphere that makes you think you're in the depths of hell itself. Originally Cruelty And The Beast was my favourite Cradle Of Filth album but this has taken its place. I mean, nobody on this site is yet to give it anything less 5 stars!!
This is an excellent album if you like the gothic side of black metal. Go buy it, you know you want to.
