5.0 out of 5 stars a good starter book about che, September 9, 2002

this was the first book i ever read about che. being that i live in the san fransisco bay area, and my mother being born in time to live through the 60s in the bay area, she purchased this book. she has a first edition press,[now that i think about it i wonder if the book is valuable.] i found it while cleaning out my back porch.

this book gives a very brief but thourough review of ches life, then goes on to list some of his famous speeches. gerassi was a professor working at san fransisco state during the time of ches murder, but met him in 1960 for an interview for the newyork times or some paper, and then commmenced a distant reverent relation with him. this is a nice little book to read if you want to get the jist of che. a nice mix of bio, and then ches writings. this was one of the first books ever published about che[1968]and a good start to understaning him. i think you should read the short bio, then read the [highly abridged] account of the revolutionary process to see what they went through. [then go buy "Episodes of the Cuban Revolutionary War, 1956-58"]

the format of the book publishes speeches and essays/writings of ches in bibliographic order. mostly things from 1960-65. nothing from africa or bolivia. also, there are letters and poems and tributs, like the unfinnished letter of tribute to camillio, a man who fought with che in the revoultion and was a very valient and magnonimous warrior who survived all the battles from the granma landing in dec 1956, to die in a plance crash in 1960. this is not much new informaiton if you have read several other che books, but stands as a good reference to read some of his speeches and to get a taste of the true essence of what a great man this was.
