For too long I've been a fan of liquid soap in the shower; thankfully I never ventured into "body wash" territory. OK, maybe once or twice. Recently I've been making efforts to go off the grid a little with my personal hygiene products. The logic against slathering my body with harsh chemicals really resonated with me and I've started looking for more natural soaps and shampoos as a result. Luckily there are plenty of smaller companies out there making fine products; Shugar Soapworks seems to be one of them.

I discovered a shelf at a local discount / close-out store bursting with two-packs of Venezia Soapworks soaps (most likely Shugar's close-out store branding?) and went in for a closer look. Right away, the oatmeal scent appealed to the manly man in me (what man wouldn't want to smell like oatmeal?) so I did some research online with my phone and came up with mixed reviews...some people saying this soap dried their skin, or the scent didn't stick around after their shower...but the price was too good to pass up and, darnit, I wanted to smell delicious for once. So, I took a two-pack home with me and I've been enjoying my decision every time I shower. This soap lathers up great, smells wonderful during and, to a lesser extent, after my shower, and I've noticed no drying effects on my skin. Plus, this soap is made just down the freeway a bit from where I live, right here in the good ol' U.S. of A. What's not to love? Add in the fact that the stuff is cruelty free and made from vegetable oils and I'm a happy guy...who smells of oatmeal.

I've since gone back for two more two-packs of the oatmeal scent and I even picked up a couple bars of their honey almond, which also smells great, but this one's scent does not seem to linger so much post shower. If you see any of these soaps and are looking for a reasonably priced alternative to the brands the TV tells you to buy, give Venezia a chance to win you over.
