Book Description

Living large in New York City as a corporate lawyer for the most savvy drug lord on the East Coast, Special Agent Steve Williams carefully plots Charlie Wisnowski's downfall. His plans go to hell when his wife Jennifer survives an attack by a serial killer. With her life in jeopardy and his undercover guise threatening to unravel, he orders Charlie's arrest. But the sting goes woefully wrong and Steve becomes the target of a mafia assassin hired by the biggest crime boss in America.

Escaping from the city, Steve and Jennifer settle back into their quiet life on the banks of Mirror Lake. Their peaceful existence shatters with a crippling loss and Jennifer's visions escalate, forecasting a brutal assault on their family.

Armed with scant details from her dreams, Steve trudges through a litany of past connections, searching for the key to stop the course of fate.

What he uncovers chills him to the core - a brother with a grudge, a serial killer and a mafia assassin are all on his trail. The hunt begins . . .

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

J.E. Taylor is a writer, an editor, a manuscript formatter, a mother, a wife and a business analyst, not necessarily in that order. She first sat down to seriously write in February of 2007 after her daughter asked:

"Mom, if you could do anything, what would you do?"

From that moment on, she hasn't looked back and now her writing resume includes six+ published novels along with several short stories on the virtual shelves including a few within eXcessica anthologies.

Ms. Taylor also moonlights as an Assistant Editor of Allegory, an online venue for Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror, and lends a hand in formatting manuscripts for eXcessica as well as offering her services judging writing contests for various RWA chapters.

She lives in Connecticut with her husband and two children and during the summer months enjoys her weekends on the shore in southern Maine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disgusting May 7, 2012
By Dusty

I enjoy a good crime thriller, or so i thought. This book might actually have changed my mind. It takes things to a whole new and disgusting level. Its very graphic in its details surrounding the NUMEROUS rapes that occur and then the author goes as far as to mix a new born baby into the equation DURING a rape scenario. It made me sick to my stomach. The ending was the worst part. I gave this book the benefit of the doubt by reading it all the way through, but now i really wish i hadnt.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping read that I couldn't put down April 25, 2012
By Poppet
Format:Kindle Edition
This novel was my introduction to Taylor's writing. It's a crime thriller which follows FBI agent Steve Williams deep undercover inside a cocaine ring. With each chapter the tension mounts as Taylor turns the screws in using multiple and excellent techniques to grip the reader and stress them out. Jennifer's visions of The Slasher serial killer coupled with Steve's ever increasing fear of being caught as the mole working for a vicious, cunning and intimidating crime boss (Charlie) continue to escalate the tension.

I enjoy crime thrillers and this one was intense. It seems to be a trend now as Taylor is the third published author I've read who wrote about a serial killer gunning for a female. One thing all of these have in common is the personal connection between psycho and victim.

This is going to be a particularly difficult review to write without giving the brilliant twists away. Call it the cryptic review of an excellent book.

Steve, to hold and keep his cover, is forced at gunpoint to break the law and begin consuming the *boss's* product. When his wife becomes part of the picture, Charlie's interest in her pushes Steve to the edge emotionally with his instincts wanting to protect Jennifer yet unable to do so without breaking his cover and throwing years of undercover work down the toilet.

The chapters are short and to the point. This isn't overwritten which adds to the excellent pace of the book. By the halfway mark I had to keep reading. A testimony of excellence is that I read this all in a few hours. And toward the end when the attacks are so brutal and explicit, I was literally reading through my fingers.

I wanted a happy ending. I really did.

1.0 out of 5 stars Vengeance (A Steve Williams Novel) June 1, 2012
By Me
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
An absolutely awful book. The descriptive rapes and murders were a total turn off. After the first couple I had to skim over all the rest. The ending was a real turn off. I would never read another book by this author. I am thankful it was a free book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Ever May 14, 2012
By Don
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the lamest book I have read, the hero FBI agent is inept along with thhe FBI. You discover pyscho rapist serial killer has wired your home audio and video but you leave the wife and new baby home alone. You end up rooting for the serial killer. The author must have rape fantasies as she goes into vivid detaiils of him raping the heroes wife. Don't waste your time reading this piece of crapola just plain awful................

1.0 out of 5 stars one of the worst books I've ever read June 9, 2012
By tvlgds
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm an avid reader and this has got to be one of the worst books I've ever read. For a female author, in particular, to fixate on numerous very brutal, very graphic rapes, is absolutely appalling. The same "victim" was, apparently, raped in a previous book, in addition to this one. The only thing worse was the use of a tiny newborn baby in her sick, sick fantasy. I'd say this author has some serious mental problems.

1.0 out of 5 stars Vile! May 25, 2012
By Sassy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a vile book. There is nothing redeeming about it. We have a woman brutally raped, a child's finger cut off and then the child blown up. What type of sicko is the author?

This is one of the most disgusting books I've read. Too bad there isn't room for negative stars as I'd given this crappola -5 stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible! May 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
WOW! (and this is not meant in a good way) I love books, all kinds, but this one was by far the most disturbing and disgusting. For one, once a woman is raped it is not to be made light of, or that she can just go from sodomy raped to making love the next day, that takes A LOT of time to digest/deal with it/ get counseling for and to just move on in the intimacy department isn't something that is in any way NORMAL. (not that this is supposed to be normal but at least let us live within the realms of human beings) The second that was so mind shocking was the fact that a newborn baby was blown up! REALLY?! paraphrasing here from the book: 'ever seen a body blown up, it's more like a blood mist'. And to let the book go there is wrong...wrong...wrong! It's generally not acceptable to blow up a newborn baby so graphically (especially even at all). This was the first book that I came into with this author and it will be the last. I don't see how the production company(or whatever it was) OK-ed this for public consumption (reading).
