No matter the medium, every artist reaches a point of imminent self-realization. It's the moment when the vision finally comes into focus and the pieces fit perfectly. The identity becomes grasped tighter than ever, while boldly forging ahead into the future. Exterior circumstances fall into place, and everything coalesces into a perfect storm of blood, sweat, and tears. For Trivium, ... Read more in Amazon's Trivium Store

Editorial Reviews

Trivium present their 6th album - definitely one of their heaviest, while at the same time melodic efforts. Over the last 2 and ½ years the band honed their craft while touring with Dream Theater, Slipknot, Asking Alexandria and more. They entered the studio with Disturbed frontman David Draiman producing and delivered a powerful album featuring the lead radio single "Strife."

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely Different from the Previous Album! 4.4 Stars November 17, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
So, Trivium has returned with their 6th album and it is...different. It is still undeniably Trivium, but it's got some very different things from the previous album(s). First up, it is less complex when compared to more than half of the previous album as well as their whole discography. They've always been a complex band musically. Next up, the vocals are extremely, extremely strong! Matt's vocals are bursting with confidence and he has never sounded stronger vocally. The only thing is that there are noticeably less rough vocals. The vocals are mostly clean sung, however, they aren't the same gruff style as The Crusade, they are just plain clean vocals. The music as I said is less complex, but that doesn't mean it isn't still heavy, nor that it doesn't still have some technically advanced passages. The drumming on this album is incredible and some songs feature some of Trivium's BEST riffs and solos ever.

The Music:

1. Brave This Storm- This song starts off right in your face, the shredding riffing is extremely in your face. Then it goes into a groove passage and Matt's voice comes in extremely confidently. This song definitely starts the album off on a good note. The verse has more of a slower, groove metal approach (akin to Sevendust) and then the chorus has melodies and technical stuff like the Trivium I'm used to hearing. All in all, it actually doesn't sound very simplistic. Definitely a good, solid track. I like it! Good tune!

2. Vengeance Falls- This title track fits the "stripped down" description. The first one really didn't fit that description. The riffing in this one's verse has an alternative metal chug feel to it. It isn't terrible, but I'm not a fan of this song because it does sound stripped down.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of their Best! March 30, 2014
By Nikki
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I ordered this without reading the reviews. Knowing how critical people can be, I would rather judge something on my own, and decide for myself if it's any good. I knew whatever they had on this cd was going to be amazing. So far, I have Ascendancy, The Crusade, In Waves, and now Vengeance Falls. Upon listening to this album, I noticed it was different from the rest of their previous material. Then again, all of their albums are different from each other. Three songs into this album, I noticed that the music had a David Draiman influence. I look at the back of the disk case, and sure enough, David Draiman had produced this album. They sound like Trivium, with a touch of David Draiman. They did an amazing job with this cd! I must have listened to this cd 3 times in a row on the first day I received it. I think this album is my favorite now. Trivium never disappoints me. I highly recommend this album!

4.0 out of 5 stars Brutal-yet-simultaneously-tuneful modern thrash metal January 23, 2014
Format:Audio CD
Eight years after making an initial statement, Florida's Trivium find themselves still driving the point home that there is much to their sound than just mere Soilwork and/or Killswitch Engage worship. Indeed, in the years in the years succeeding 2005's breakthrough release "Ascendancy" (which was in and by itself a good effort), frontman Matt Heafy and the Gang have leavened their melodic metalcore with heavy amounts of melodic modern thrash, as well as plenty of elements from the old-school thrash playbook (think "Master Of Puppets"-era Metallica, etc.).

The result is a sound that might rely a bit too much on the heavy verse-soft chorus song structure (as there are a few tunes present, here, that would have been better suited to just let their blowtorch riffing and exceptional soloing run the show, and not unnecessarily melodic vocal refrains. But shortcomings or not, though, it is a formula that works the vast majority of the time. And also as a result of this approach, Trivium are not going to win over many haters (and convert them into fans). But hey, the objectively-minded listener should look at it this way: What is not to like about "Vengeance Falls" -- its blistering thrash runs or its insanely infectious melodicism?

The above-described heavy/soft delivery works especially well on bruisers like the opener, "Brave This Storm," which opens as an aural attack of blustery thrash riffing and booming double bass drumming before falling into a crunchy, lurching groove iced with melodic leads, vocals, and ginormous choruses. And this formula works more often than not on later standouts, too, including the title track, a song that finds inventive and technical riffery and catchy, Iron Maiden-esque galloping beats inevitably flowing into big, sweeping melodic choruses.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Introduction to Trivium December 11, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Great album. I hadn't been exposed to this band before I saw a YouTube video of "Strife" and I decided to buy the entire album. Reminds me a bit of Avenged Sevenfold, but a bit less melodic if that makes sense. Good mix of growls, screams, and clean vocals (mostly clean) and a few nice slower ballads as well. I haven't heard any of Trivium's other albums so I can't comment how it compares to those, except to say that I listened to the samples Amazon provides for some of their other albums and it reinforced that I should start with the album that contained "strife," my introduction to the band. I may buy some of the other albums later, but based on the samples I listened to I bet this one will be my favorite. If anyone wants to comment on this review to suggest which album I should try next that'd be great.
