Book Description

Living large in New York City as a corporate lawyer for the most savvy drug lord on the East Coast, Special Agent Steve Williams carefully plots Charlie Wisnowski's downfall. His plans go to hell when his wife Jennifer survives an attack by a serial killer. With her life in jeopardy and his undercover guise threatening to unravel, he orders Charlie's arrest. But the sting goes woefully wrong and Steve becomes the target of a mafia assassin hired by the biggest crime boss in America.

Escaping from the city, Steve and Jennifer settle back into their quiet life on the banks of Mirror Lake. Their peaceful existence shatters with a crippling loss and Jennifer's visions escalate, forecasting a brutal assault on their family.

Armed with scant details from her dreams, Steve trudges through a litany of past connections, searching for the key to stop the course of fate.

What he uncovers chills him to the core - a brother with a grudge, a serial killer and a mafia assassin are all on his trail. The hunt begins . . .

About the Author

J.E. Taylor is a writer, an editor, a manuscript formatter, a mother, a wife and a business analyst, not necessarily in that order. She first sat down to seriously write in February of 2007 after her daughter asked:

"Mom, if you could do anything, what would you do?"

From that moment on, she hasn't looked back and now her writing resume includes six+ published novels along with several short stories on the virtual shelves including a few within eXcessica anthologies.

Ms. Taylor also moonlights as an Assistant Editor of Allegory, an online venue for Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror, and lends a hand in formatting manuscripts for eXcessica as well as offering her services judging writing contests for various RWA chapters.

She lives in Connecticut with her husband and two children and during the summer months enjoys her weekends on the shore in southern Maine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disgusting May 7, 2012

I enjoy a good crime thriller, or so i thought. This book might actually have changed my mind. It takes things to a whole new and disgusting level. Its very graphic in its details surrounding the NUMEROUS rapes that occur and then the author goes as far as to mix a new born baby into the equation DURING a rape scenario. It made me sick to my stomach. The ending was the worst part. I gave this book the benefit of the doubt by reading it all the way through, but now i really wish i hadnt.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping read that I couldn't put down April 25, 2012
By Poppet
Format:Kindle Edition
This novel was my introduction to Taylor's writing. It's a crime thriller which follows FBI agent Steve Williams deep undercover inside a cocaine ring. With each chapter the tension mounts as Taylor turns the screws in using multiple and excellent techniques to grip the reader and stress them out. Jennifer's visions of The Slasher serial killer coupled with Steve's ever increasing fear of being caught as the mole working for a vicious, cunning and intimidating crime boss (Charlie) continue to escalate the tension.

I enjoy crime thrillers and this one was intense. It seems to be a trend now as Taylor is the third published author I've read who wrote about a serial killer gunning for a female. One thing all of these have in common is the personal connection between psycho and victim.

This is going to be a particularly difficult review to write without giving the brilliant twists away. Call it the cryptic review of an excellent book.

Steve, to hold and keep his cover, is forced at gunpoint to break the law and begin consuming the *boss's* product. When his wife becomes part of the picture, Charlie's interest in her pushes Steve to the edge emotionally with his instincts wanting to protect Jennifer yet unable to do so without breaking his cover and throwing years of undercover work down the toilet.

The chapters are short and to the point. This isn't overwritten which adds to the excellent pace of the book. By the halfway mark I had to keep reading. A testimony of excellence is that I read this all in a few hours. And toward the end when the attacks are so brutal and explicit, I was literally reading through my fingers.

I wanted a happy ending. I really did. The ending is not what I anticipated and it makes you wonder how much love is required to hold a couple together? How much can they go through and survive? Adversity ties some people together stronger than ever, yet I don't see Jennifer and Steve staying together after this. Because too much was lost - also the psychology behind it would also ruin their intimacy in the future (it goes with the territory.)

The way it ended leaves me thinking there will be a sequel. Considering how many people died in this, the fact that the perp wasn't lying in the dust with a bullet lodged in each eyeball tells me there's more to this story still to come.

It's a great crime thriller - it was an excellent read, it moves at a frenetic pace with multiple character threads being woven through it to culminate in an explosive ending. I recommend it as a gripping read you won't be able to put down.

1.0 out of 5 stars Vengeance (A Steve Williams Novel) June 1, 2012
By Me

An absolutely awful book. The descriptive rapes and murders were a total turn off. After the first couple I had to skim over all the rest. The ending was a real turn off. I would never read another book by this author. I am thankful it was a free book.
