At least so say the "auditors" in one of Terry Pratchett's stories and it came to mind as I finished reading this story. The author has created a believable scenario as a background to this tale of disaster and revenge. A clerical error sets in train a series of events that lead from one tragedy to another. The question remains, has 'justice' been served or done?

The author is Dutch and this story is written in English, a bold move for someone for whom this is a second language (I speak some Dutch, German and some other languages, but know I couldn't write a story this well in any of them!), and so deserves the readers admiration. The dialogues read very well, and the narrative fills in the sense of anger and loss the hero is experiencing. It gives a powerful sense of the frustrations he feels dealing with the situation and his attempts to get his job and his life back together. Mr Van Eeden certainly knows how to draw you into his story and I shall now have to track down some of his other work as well. In this work he opens up a number of questions in our "liberal" society, not least the morality underlying some "commercial" activities and the pursuit of riches and pleasure.

I've no wish to spoil either the story or the final climax for a reader, so I will say only that the quotation I have used in the title of this review is apposite. It made an interesting read and could be classed as a "short" story as I read it at a single sitting in an afternoon. I can commend this to those who enjoy stories with a touch of Edgar Allan Poe's liking for shock endings ...

"Vengeance" is a great story. Full of suspense, twists and turns it keeps the reader engaged from beginning to end. The story is almost cinematic in nature with short scenes building to create suspense and keep the reader on the edge of their seats.
The characters are well drawn and relationships are well defined.
At the heart of the story is a mistake made by an escort agency;this causes the central character to lose his wife and son in a car accident. He seeks out the owner of the escort agency in order to gain revenge.Once he finds her events quicken and the story ultimately ends in tragedy.
If you want to be entertained and are interested in some light, enjoyable reading with a great storyline then this book may be for you.

This is a quick read for all fans of mystery and suspense.

Alexander (a very likeable character from the start) gets a massive telling-off from his wife because she thinks he's been visiting an escort agency. His wife, full of anger and rage, speeds off with their son in tow, culminating in the tragic deaths of mother and child. Alexander becomes a man-on-a-mission, determined to take down the person responsible for his wife and son's deaths. Nothing is as easy as you might imagine and the book keeps the reader interested and engaged.

My only criticism is that, having enjoyed the book so much, I would have liked it to be a bit longer. Was a page turner and I would have enjoyed even more.

Did you like the book? YES.
Would you recommend it to a friend? YES, I SHARED IT ON MY FACEBOOK PAGE.
Would you buy a movie ticket to see the film version? YES, BUT WHAT HOLLYWOOD ACTOR WOULD PLAY ALEXANDER??!
