5.0 out of 5 stars Hypnotic, almost mystical, transcendent, April 20, 2000

I have heard several Taize CDs or tapes, and this is by far my favorite. I am not a religious person, but there is something transcendent about the harmonies and the repetition of the same lyrics over and over. There is a little blurb that shows some of the lyrics, so it makes it easy to sing along with. I adore this CD. I can't say enough about it. Anyone who is interested in music or in Romance languages would love it. You don't have to be religious to be entranced by this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Inspiring, and Healing, April 2, 2004

I totally agree with the first reviewer: there is something transcendent and hypnotic about Taize's "Veni Sancte Spiritus."
I was browsing in a Catholic store when I first heard this CD playing. I have never bought a so-called "religious" CD before (except for classical music) and I think that it is my love of classical music that initially attracted me to this music. This type of singing is a form of prayer which adds to its inspirational qualities. I also find that the repetition/harmony of the choir, the solos, and many of the songs have a soothing and thus, healing quality to them. My favorite tracks are 2) Toi, tu nous aimes/you love us (wonderful and calming for morning and evening reflection) 4) Tui amoris ignem 6) Misericordias Domini 7) Alleluia and 11) Herr, wohin sollen wir gehen? (God, to whom shall we go? - the latter is quite stirring). I also like the obvious fact that the solos are sung in Latin, French, German, and English, etc. You don't have to be "conventionally" religious or anything to admire this CD and the mission of Taize; you only need to have an appreciation of fine music and its spirituality.
