Product Description

WINNER OF...
The Dove Foundation Family Approved Seal Venice is a fairy tale city, rising from the sea on 119 small islands, separated by the 160 canals that dominate Venetian life. Five hundred years ago it was the world center of trade and commerce. Its jeweled Basilica, a blend of Byzantine splendor and Western imagination, was built in 829 to honor St. Mark, the city's patron saint. Close by is the pink marble Palace of the Doges, the Sansovino Library, the towering Campanile, the landmark Clock, all around a square- the Piazza San Marco- that has been called "the most beautiful room in Europe."

It has been half a millennium since Venice ruled the waves. Since then its churches and palaces, gondolas and canals, public buildings and private villas, art museums and piazzas have steadily declined into a gorgeous decay. What Venice rules now is the heart! From Byron to Browning, from Thomas Mann to Earnest Hemingway, writers, poets, artists and more then a quarter of a million visitors a year are drawn to the city by the sea.

V.I.E.W. Video is proud to present this MUSEUM CITY VIDEO. Travel with us and view a thousand years of the glorious history and heartbreaking beauty that is Venice: Queen of the Adriatic.

I purchased this video and another from this collection as a gift for my father and was sorely dissapointed. The video quality was poor and mostly out of focus, making it impossible to enjoy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and poor video quality, January 8, 2007
This review is from: Venice: Queen of the Adriatic [VHS] (VHS Tape)
For a city called the "Queen of the Adriatic", Venice deserves a better tour video than this one. This tape is in fact more slide show than video, as there is no real moving footage - just a limited selection of photographs shown (often repeatedly!) beneath a rather overdramatic narration. The picture quality is not even very clear and colors are washed out, making it difficult to appreciate the supposed beauty of the city at the focus of this production.

While some of the highlight attractions of the city are shown and some of its history is discussed, there is little focus at all on the artwork of the city, and not much information that will be useful to those planning a visit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paris City of Light,, August 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Venice: Queen of the Adriatic [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Here is a video, unlike any other, void of cliches, interesting, romantic, exciting, yet clearly stated. I recommend it to every Paris lover or traveler.
