Book Description

February 2008
Each volume of the ART & ARCHITECTURE series is opulently illustrated. The highly readable texts give you concentrated information on accessing well and lesser known sites in the world of art. An image of every piece of art that is described is included, allowing readers to easily recognize the original on site. Insets on cultural-historical topics and illustrated glossaries, summaries, and timelines supplement the body text - leaving a deeper, more lasting impression of the material that is covered. Convenient compact format makes these books particularly handy to take along as a guide while viewing the great works featured within.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great overview, June 26, 2001
By A Customer
A great overview and guidebook of Venice, which includes many photographs and maps. Its compact size lends itself to easy travel, but would look great on the bookshelf at home also. The contents of the book are divided into different sections of the city. Historical and artistic background is given as well. The only problem is that there are some misspellings. This book made me want to return to Venice!

5.0 out of 5 stars Packed with information and well designed, December 18, 2009

This is unbelievably good value for your money. Though small in size it offers a huge amount of information on art and architecture as the title implies, but also on history and some of the traditions. Very good print, design and photos, maps of the city and of some buildings room by room. It's a chunky little book, but it lays very well in your hands. If you have the slightest interest in the lagoon city, don't hesitate. I can't see anyone get disappointed by this, I certainly didn't.

This review is from: Venice: Art & Architecture (Hardcover)
This compact tome delivers a brief but excellent "tour" of Venice through its photographs and descriptions. Other books may be more for the coffee table, to be nibbled politely now and then, but this one is far more satisfying, to be devoured and savored cover to cover. I was a bit shocked at the dimensions of this publication; far too small to provide a conversation starter in the parlour, and too large for the pocket! When I get to Venice, I will make sure I have a purse large enough to carry this book around, as it seems incredibly well organized. The artworks are presented as they appear within each building, so no flipping through pages to find what you seek. Definitely the best QPR (quality price ratio) in Venice Art and Architecture books!
