Series gets even better!, August 19, 2004
After 'Yorkshire' - the first in this series - read as an eBook I was so satisfied with the plot and characters that went out and bought the existing 4 books in the series in paperback (including Yorkshire). Looking forward to a pleasant Georgian Romance/Mystery I was wonderfully surprised to find Devonshire (#2) and then Venice (#3) even better than Yorkshire!
Rose and Richard's relationship being the driving force - even when seperated. I cannot tell you how enjoyable it is to read of a romance couple that is truly a couple - not keeping secrets, no big misunderstandings, problems worked out - and not falling to many of the romance novels pitfalls - yet they are so enjoyable to read as charachters.
The ongoing danger and mystery to me was almost a secondary storyline - because I enjoyed Rose and Richard's interaction so much. Yet, it helped create a full storyline and brought many other characters into focus. I am so pulling for Gervase to find his true love!
On to Harley Street!

Just Gets Better with Each Book, January 25, 2004
Lynne Connolly just gets better with each Rose and Richard book. This one kept me spellbound for hours wondering what was going to happen and who was doing what. I am intrigued by the characters in these books set in or before the Regency period. This one is the third in the series with the fourth due out in mid-February 2004, Harley Street. The mysteries involved in each book are wonderful, unique and very satisfying. Kudos to Ms. Connolly. Keep them coming. I can't wait for the next one.

Perfection, October 15, 2009
Third book in the excellent Richard and Rose series.
Richard and Rose finally marry. They are giddy and happy and on their way to their yacht for their wedding trip when a crack of gunfire just misses Rose. They realize that somebody wants them dead. Richard devises a scheme for them to split up and travel to Venice, their honeymoon spot, separately. Rose travels with Carrier, Richard's manservant and Nichols, Rose's own maid. These two are no mere servants, they also double as well armed bodyguards, while Richard travels alone, more stealthily to make sure there are no ambushes on the road ahead. As an extra measure Rose travels incognito as a young Merchant's wife, Mrs. Locke.
On the way, Rose encounters a couple who introduce themselves to her as Lord and Lady Strang and they tell her they are traveling incognito as well under the name Ravens. Rose is bemused by the couple because of course she and Richard are Lord and Lady Strang.
When Rose and Richard meet up in Venice, not only do they have a scorching hot reunion (finally they are married and can make love as much as they want) but they also have to decide what to do about the fake Lord and Lady Strang as well as try to figure out who is trying to kill them and why. All the while enjoying the sights, sounds and atmosphere of Venice and making lots of love.
Three books in and this series is still just utterly fabulous. I truly love Richard, he has so much going on under the hood. On the surface he looks like a dandified, pampered lord but in reality he runs one of the widest most efficiently placed spy networks in all of England. And he is really quite a rogue. And Rose is definitely his match. This book was so fun.
I especially like how Richard and Rose out-con the con artists. They neatly turn the tables on the Ravens until the poor souls -- in a wonderful scene of awful realization -- learn exactly who are the sharks and who are the pigeons. There is a great scene where, after Richard subdues a villain (under the eyes of the increasingly horrified Ravens), Rose drinks a glass of brandy looks at the man on the floor and calmly says "He's bleeding. He'll ruin the carpet." and Richard, in sheer delight at her aplomb says "God, how I love you."
Wonderful book. Wonderful series.
