Venice, early 1800s

Isabella Tenderini, a wealthy merchant's widow rescues a stranger from drowning in one of Venice's canals. And how does the man repay her selfless act? By kissing her - her, a respectable woman.

Not only is Raphael di Santori grateful for his life being saved, he would also like to thank his rescuer very intimately - more intimately than decorum allows. But then, Raphael has never been one to play by the rules - as a vampire he doesn't have to.

This is a novella of approx. 139 pages / 31,000 words.
Each chapter is illustrated with a photo of Venice from the author's own collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is an Erotica Novella July 1, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
More a 3 3/4 than a 3.

If you are looking for a short, well written erotic story with graphic and explicit sex in it then this is a book that you will enjoy. It is a short historical paranormal novella with vampires that will set your body on fire. It's a light read that actually contains a good plot, good charactization and a great time & world building in such a short story.

Yes, it is short and I would have loved it to be longer - but it is a novella

Yes - it is very graphic and explicit but that is also stated in the warning part of the description - and I do like a little (okay, a lot) of heat in my reads ever now and again.

Is it worth the money - in my opinion, yes - I did enjoy it.

The only reason I did not give it a 4 or 5 star rating is I try and reserve those ratings for books that I consider ones that I can not imagine not having read or reading over and over. This novella was interesting, entertaining, a light, smooth read with plenty of heat - just what I needed at the time. In fact, I did enjoy this novella enough to start reading the Scanguard Vampire Series by this author.

Wow, this is not for the faint of heart..when they mean explicit and graphic...it really doesn't even begin to cover it! The vampire theme wasn't played up as I thought it would be and lacked romance. This was just pure sex. If you're looking for "that" type of book, this is for you. I don't mind the descriptive nature of some books, but this was overkill. Author could be great and story could have been great...if there had been more "story" to it. Hope the author takes things to a different level. Will check back on her later.

4.0 out of 5 stars lady and the vamp July 15, 2011

"It is the city of mirrors, the city of mirages, at once solid and liquid, at once air and stone." --Erica Jong

as the noise and revelry of the Venetian Carnival continue in the night, Isabella Tenderini, widow, finds herself on her way home and rescues Raphael Di Santori from drowning in one of the canals. she brings the stranger home and takes care of him. unknown to her, Raphael is a vampire. upon waking up, he thinks his rescuer is an angel and vows to thank and possess her in more ways than one.
Venice has always appealed to me as one of the interesting places i would want to visit ever since i read Erica Jong's Serenissima. thanks again to Tina Folsom, she brought me vicariously back to this city. this time, she introduced me to a world of vampires, rich nobles, merchants and secret societies.
i loved the way she included photographs of the city from her own collection to mark the end and/or beginning of each chapter. as a very visual person, this helped make the story more vivid for me and made my reading more enjoyable.
the only "problem" i have with Venice Vampyr, however, is i find it too short and i wanted to read more. i did not want to take leave of Raphael, Isabella, Dante, the Guardians of the Holy Waters and the city of Venice just yet.
i would like to inform everyone that this book contains very explicit and graphic sexual situations, voyeurism and other taboos that may make some readers blush to the core so be forewarned.
this is my third Tina Folsom read and i can say that i won't ever get tired of reading her books. from the realms of Olympus down to the streets of San Francisco and all the way to the palazzos of Venice, her stories and characters are as unforgettable as they are beautiful, sexy and passionate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot and Steamy Vampire Fic! February 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Tina Folsom is truly a master when it comes to erotic fiction, with a paranormal twist, of course. Anyone who has read her Scanguard Vampire series knows that she writes a great sexy vampire story.

Venice Vampyr is all that, and a historical story as well. It is also smoking hot. It is so hot, that a cold shower is recommended after the last page is turned. Isabella rescued Raphael from drowning, because that was the fate her first husband suffered. She takes him into her home to nurse him back to health, however she finds herself attracted to him from the very start.

Its this attraction that gets her in trouble with her late husband's cousin and results in her quicky marriage to Raphael. Raphael then discovers that Massimo is more than just a hateful cousin out to ruin, Isabella to get to her fortune, he's a vampire slayer! (of the sort) Isabella, doesn't know that her new husband is a vampire, but not to worry, she'll find out!

It is hard for an author to really develop characters in about 130 pages, but Tina has done it. You learn a lot about Isabella, probably more so than Raphael. You even get a good backstory on her first husband. That ties in with "The Guardians." She's a very strong character that follows her heart, even when her head might be saying something different.

My only gripe is that this was a novella. I would have loved a full story about Isabella and Raphael. I definitely would have liked to have learned more about his past and a bit more about "The Guardians." It would have been a little something to fill the pages between the sex scenes, and this story was full of those.

I highly recommend this story if you are a fan of erotic fiction and if you like vampires, it is definite must read.
