5.0 out of 5 stars Feel those hairs on the back of your neck raise?
Venom and Tears is absolutely savage. It is crafted masterfully, from beginning to end. There is NO filler on this record, guaranteed. Throwdown manages to do what few heavy bands these days do. They create their own monster while tipping the hat to some truely classic sounds of the past. They know where the beating heart of metal comes from and they show it respect,...

2.0 out of 5 stars not that good, sorry guys
Look, I heard a song on the radio awhile ago and I thought it was nasty. But until Mike Hshu told me it was Throwdown, dude I thought it was Phil Anselmo's new band. On the entire album, he tries to sound exactly like Phil Anselmo. I bought this album because of that song but also because I knew they were hardcore legends. I was very disappointed, I've been getting into...

Venom and Tears is absolutely savage. It is crafted masterfully, from beginning to end. There is NO filler on this record, guaranteed. Throwdown manages to do what few heavy bands these days do. They create their own monster while tipping the hat to some truely classic sounds of the past. They know where the beating heart of metal comes from and they show it respect, and you get the sense that it's not just because it's paying the bills. They took time with these songs to carve out a beast. Vendetta was just a preview of things to come. If you're starving for some good metal, you will not be disappointed with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars True metaller's delight, August 7, 2007

Typically Throwdown is stereotyped easily as being a metalcore band due to them coming from Orange County like other bands such as Eighteen Visions and Bleeding Through. By the time they recorded 2005's Vendetta, their Pantera and Machine Head influences started to show more. Enter 2007, they've released Venom & Tears. Now, each Throwdown album is a soundtrack to a white-knuckle brawl. This album: an obliteration. More fast heavy riffs, quick thrashy drumming, and a first...actual guitars solos. A great album for fans, and if you weren't convinced before, this one might just convince you.

Very solid can't wait to get the other ones. I've had amazon recommend this band to me several times with other purchases, and for some reason I always ignored them. When this album came out I saw an ad for it on myspace so I listened to the first two tracks. I was sold immediatley. Its pretty much obvious they get influence from Pantera, the singer sounds much like Phil in his hoarse screaming and really the only difference in the instrumental sound is the guitar, I would say its heavier than Dimebag, although dimebag was probably better at coming up with a sweet riff, all of the songs on the album have very heavy catchy riffs. Highly recommend this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars I listen to music to be entertained.... money well spent!!!, September 29, 2007
This review is from: Venom & Tears (Audio CD)
All I can say is WOW!! This album shows that there is still hope for heavy music. No rap or whiny voices here, just pure energy. I will agree it sounds alot like Pantera, but is that all bad? Everyone is influenced by someone else. How many bands sounded like Metallica back in the day... OH WELL! In many ways this is a more complete album than Pantera's later efforts. Every cd seems to have those tracks you have to skip. There may be one or two on this cd, but it's all about personal preference. If you like heavy metal like Lamb of God or Pantera, then I highly recommend this cd.

This cd is one of the best releases ever. There are fast parts and of course there are always breakdowns to beat you over the head.Every song is heavy as hell but memorable as well. This group deserves a lot more attention and I hope this one gets them one step closer to what they deserve. They do remind me of Pantera at times, ecspecially the vocals.Buy it, don't burn it and keep this group going so we can look forward to more like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars INSTANT CLASSIC, February 13, 2009

Sounds like throwdown gone metal. Still here the old hardcore sound but with a dash of pantera. They'd be proud of this one. Not a bad track to be seen. Better than lamb of god in my opinion

People are getting way to serious. Throwdown started as sort of a joke band, made up of members from other bands. I have been listening to them since around 99' and yes this album is a bit different if their old stuff is what you are used to. This is a good record and yes it totally has a Pantera influence. Is this bad? Only if you don't like Pantera. The message is still there, the music is just more mainstream metal sounding. More "sellable" if you will. Its still heavy and driving, but in a different way than they are used to. I don't claim sXe but my friends all do and I know the scene. These guys aren't sell outs. Not yet anyway. Who knows what the money will do to them, that will be their test. Not sure why Slick up there was getting his panties in a bundle over a band expanding a little and taking a little different direction. All bands don't have to sound like Minor Threat to be sXe. I like all kinds of heavy music and I admit I was surprised by this record as it wasn't what I was expecting for a Throwdown album, but I really like it. If I ever get in the UFC I'm using Hellbent as my intro song. That song really makes me want to smash someone in the face and throw elbows. I haven't heard a heavy groove like that in a long long time.

Del Taco on Newport bioches! haha

5.0 out of 5 stars Just plain good!, September 26, 2007
This review is from: Venom & Tears (Audio CD)
I first heard Throwdown a couple years ago when their sound was more hardcore influenced. I am not a big fan of hardcore music but rather into bands such as Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, Testament, Megadeth, Acid Bath, Sepultura, etc. I heard the song HollyRoller on Hard Attack (Sirius Radio)and was pleasantly surprised to hear Throwdown has moved to a more METAL sound. I would describe their sound as Pantera meets Testament's sound on The Gathering. Went out and bought the CD along with the new Down CD. I must say this disk slams from beginning to end. Do yourself a favor and buy it!
