5.0 out of 5 stars Great Music that will BLOW YOUR MIND!!!!, April 16, 2009
Have been waiting about 5 years for J.G. Thirwell's high octane music for VENTURE BROS. to be ripped from the visuals of the show, so this a more than welcomed release. However, I had no idea that the item above was an LP release, as it is indicted in the albums Amazon description as a "Disc." Fortunately, a CD version of the score can be found on [Adult Swim]'s website, under "Music." Or go here - http://www.adultswim.com/music/venturebrosalbum/index.html Also, be aware that the CD version features 20 tracks, while the vinyl LP release is limited to only 16 tracks.

Hope this helps!

5.0 out of 5 stars Seriously good music., November 12, 2009

Don't let the fact that this is a soundtrack from an animated television series fool you, JG Thirlwell has obviously put a great deal of investment in this project. His work with the Kronos Quartet is fantastic and this is an unmistakable outreach from those efforts.

One of the more frustrating component s of writing commercial music is the limitation on length but with the exception of the few tracks under :60, Thirlwell provides well developed themes that have direction and motion. If you're a fan of the Venture Brothers, this album should more than satisfy a long empty hole in your heart and if you've never heard of the series before, you'll simply enjoy the music.

Hopefully, this album is the first of several more to come along with many more wonderful seasons of Venture Brothers fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, April 27, 2009
Mr. Thirlwell is a genius of modern music. He combines notes and chords in ways a normal person would never think of, to create a chaotic twist on "spy show" jazz, giving the music that wonderful Venture Brothers feel of madness. The orchestra samples are full of depth and masterfully used.

I have been waiting for something like this since season 1. I always wanted an mp3 of the music that plays on the episode list of the season 1 dvd and finally it's here. The name of the song is Warped Span, and it is song number 18 on this album. Excellent music from an excellent show.

I love this stuff, but one of my favorite tracks from the Venture Brothers is Dr. Orpheus' theme. I've listened to the record and I don't hear it. I was disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterful music from a brilliant show, a brilliant man..., June 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Recently I've been moving from my modern tastes, with includes Melodic Metal & Post Metal, the likes of Dethklok & Altar of Plagues. I've been reestablishing my roots in Classical, more composed music. This album fits a strange, small part of my musical taste buds the likes of which I was formerly unaware. Lands of Goshen this J. G. Thirlwell is fantastic. It moves from yesteryear's twangy western music, to grinding industrial, to carnival music, to classically inspired songs like "Gawker", which, if I may, has to be one of the best composed pieces of music ever written. It's infectious. The whole album.

The vinyl version may be missing four tracks, but if you're into vinyl, this is a must have, regardless of your own taste in music; because, I have to tell you, unless you're into noise metal or Nepalese chant music, there will be at least one track that appeals to you. And if worse comes to worse, & you just must have the remaining four tracks, just buy them as MP3 downloads. It won't be on the record, but a win is a win, you know?

It's a bit overpriced, but to be fair, I think all vinyl is overpriced. They should be cheaper than cds, not more expensive. And Amazon screwed up my order a total of (count 'em) three times. But after the company "made things right" with me, I still feel like this was a good call.

Now, if you've never seen the show The Venture Bros. you'll love this record anyway. If you've never seen the show, I'd kinda like to know how you wound up finding this album to begin with. Of course, you could just be an huge fan of Jim "Foetus" Thirlwell. I'm actually kind of interested in one of his other projects now, Manorexia, but I can't find any Manorexia albums on vinyl.

The long & the short of it. If you thought, even a just little, of buying this album, then just buy it. Buy it in spades.

5.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't get much better, February 19, 2011

The Venture Bros is an amazing show, and the music by Thirlwell is just as great. It's a fun album (we have both the CD and the vinyl), and the vinyl case also acts as a great display piece.
