Goin' to a Go-Go,
By
This review is from: THE VENTURES A' GO-GO (Vinyl)
Released 9/25/65, THE VENTURES A GO-GO (BLP 2037/BST 8037) was their 18th DOLTON album in six years. It peaked at #16 on Billboard's 200 chart. Despite that prolific pace, five tracks of fine quality on this "theme" LP are written by members of the group, which was: Bob Bogle (lead guitar), Don Wilson (rhythm guitar), Nokie Edwards (bass) and Mel Taylor (percussion).
"SIDE" NOTES-- ONE -- 1.) Odd-sounding organ leads over "Yeah Yeah Yeah" backing vocals. 2.) Fuzz guitar has the melody on this interesting original. 3.) A decent cover, with bending guitar notes. 4.) Rapid tempoed original with "Wipe Out" percussion and staccato guitar. 5.) Spirited, with echoey harmonica, woodblock and maracas. 6.) Organ and guitar trade lead lines; handclaps augment rhythm. TWO -- 1.) Spoken "Uno, dos" intro in a competent cover. 2.) Another fine original; it has urgent rhythm. 3.) Allegro, with stacatto guitar. 4.) Lower register fuzz guitar and standard organ. 5.) This may have been written during a coffee break. 6.) Over-amped guitar on a mediocre set-closer. SIDE ONE [2:25] (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction [2:10] Go-Go Slow [2:10] Louie Louie [2:00] Night Stick [2:25] La Bamba [2:15] The "In" Crowd SIDE TWO [2:20] Wooly Bully [2:15] A Go-Go Guitar [2:10] A Go-Go Dancer [2:37] The Swingin' Guitar [2:20] Whittier Blvd. [2:20] I Like It Like That TOTAL TIME: 27:27 |
