As a muay thai enthusiast, mouth guards and I unfortunately go hand-in-hand. Finding the proper mouthguard is a lot like Goldilocks. It truly is a matter of personal preference, also jaw/mouth size comfort level.

The Venum Challenger is your standard fare, low-moderate impact level gel mouthguard plus case, good for common contact but certainly not rugged intended. Fitting is the usual boil and bite method, one that requires following directions closely but nothing for newbies to fret over.

I found the Challenger very small - even for someone with a small size mouth. It covers approximately 1/3rd less than competing gel mouth guards. It does, however, over a graduated incline toward the back teeth, also some shock absorbing additional surface in these areas.

The Challenger's thickness leave a little to be desired, with the second (front) layer of the mouthguard peeking through in color after fitting. This is unfortunately not a very good sign, usually a precursor to the mouthguard separating sooner rather than later in prolonged use.

Unless you're truly married to this brand - which I suggest a no-no when dealing with head safety - I recommend the much better Title Platinum Polyshock Mouthguard (or equivalent) for $10 more. It's significantly thicker, covers the entire mouth, is meant for higher levels of contact, and is backed by very strong customer service.

When I first received it, I thought it was a youth mouth guard given the small size. I followed the instructions and molded it to my teeth. The mouthpiece actually expanded and I must say, is one of the most comfortable mouth guards I have had. I use this only for low level MT training. I have a custom mouth guard currently being made. For general low level impact training or just to get used to training while wearing a mouthpiece, I highly recommend this one. Extremely comfortable.

As others have said, this guard is a bit small. As a smaller female, it fits me perfectly. The composite material molds nicely and the fit is very tight. The included case is well ventilated, allowing the guard to dry between uses. I think this is a great value for the right user.

My 16 yo is a varsity lacrosse player; he wears a mouthguard most days of the year- between fall ball, winter ball, the regular season, and summer tournaments. We've had a lot of mouthguards.

I gave the Challenger to him and after he fitted it to his teeth he declared it the most comfortable mouthguard he's ever used. He says it's the most breatheable, very easy to put in and take out, and the easiest to talk through he's ever had. Great! It's a keeper and we'll buy this brand again the next time we're in the market.

I typically use a double mouthguard (a BrainPad one) for kickboxing/wrestling training that I boiled to fit my mouth, just like this one. I have to be prepared to fall a lot and take the occasional sparring-strength punch to the face. The problem with doubles though is that they can make it hard to speak and can hurt your mouth after having it in for an extended period of time.

This mouthguard is actually pretty comfortable though and fits surprisingly well. When I boiled it, I wasn't sure if I had the fit right. It's surprisingly thin once you try to mold it to your teeth. All the red on the inside is used in the fitting and doesn't actually provide any cushion really. It's not super tight to my teeth, but it isn't going to just fall out either.

That all being said, I wouldn't trust this mouthguard for more than drills and light sparring (mainly for non-striking sparring). I haven't bit my tongue in the handful of times I've used it so far, but it's definitely a possibility (though not as likely as not having a mouthguard at all, of course). Additionally, it's a little thin. It definitely provides some protection, but if I took a real hit or had a hard fall I'm not sure how much confidence I have in this mouthguard. Again, obviously preferable to not having a mouthguard but I think I may still sustain some damage.

Overall, a good mouthguard if you're just being overly cautious or if you're not concerned with particularly hard hits or heavy falls. For a lot of sport uses, I'd imagine it to work just fine (just note that there's nothing to tie it to a helmet or anything). Oh, and I like the case - it has holes to help with airing it out.

Found out from my new dentist that I grind my teeth at night, so I looked into getting a good mouth guard for myself....I had NO idea that I was grinding my teeth! This mouthguard is great! Fits perfect, was easy to mold to my mouth! This is my 2nd purchase, of this mouthguard , since I accidentally dropped my 1st one in the toilet, while camping in our RV in Oregon! There was NO way that was going back in my mouth!! Ha ha

This is a nice mouthguard. It has a nice feel to it and after a few uses the initial rubber taste went away. The mouthguard fits around my teeth perfectly and they feel secure and safe in the guard. I am still able to close my mouth all the way (although I do find myself leaving my lips open a tad to accommodate it).

The mouthguard feels well made and does its job perfectly! I have not had an issue with it and my teeth feel secure in it, for a basic mouthguard this is a great choice!!
