4.0 out of 5 stars bjork before she went crazy with singles
don't get me wrong, i'm a hardcore bjork fan, but i can't help but feel jipped by her newer singles... (mainly from post on forward). the venus as a boy single actually has a few harder-to-find songs not on her albums, and good, quality remixes. her newer singles are in abundance, but seem to lack the originality and innovation that older ones like these had. this is...

OK, I own fiftysomething Björk discs, and this is not one of my favorites. I am perfectly willing to shell out a chunk of change for a disc with only one good track as long as that track is great. This is not.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality Single, October 23, 2000

This isn't one of my favorite Bjork songs, but I still think it's great. This is to be expected since Bjork is an outstanding vocalist and songwriter. The remix of VENUS AS A BOY loses some of the playfulness of the original version, while gaining a more gutteral intensity. It's a great variation on the sexual nature of this song. There are also some great b-sides on this single that are great to have whether your a die-hard Bjork fan or not. "Stigdu Mig" is beautifully sung in Icelandic and features a haunting acoustic guitar. "I Remember You" features some the most emotional, heartfelt singing I've ever heard. Just for this song alone, I would buy this single. Her voice ranges from a sweet whisper to a powerful yelp. Toward the end of the song, her voice quivers with a gritty quality. I applaud her for courageously expressing her raw vulnerability in this song. This is another masterpiece by Bjork!

5.0 out of 5 stars Always a classic!, February 22, 2003
This review is from: Venus As A Boy (Audio CD)
This is one of the songs that started it all...back in the day...the phenomenon we call Björk. (at least, shown to the world)
It's filled with dreamy groove...intriguing lyrics...violins...exoticness...everything!;^)
The Anglo-American version is great as well, and it also features the haunting bonus track Stígðu Mig, and the sweet hark-back song "I Remember You", recorded with the same harpist who worked with her on the companion song "Like Someone In Love" for Debut.
There is also a groovy 12 minute tribal-sounding remix to Human Behaviour done by Underworld, and a fun non-toilet mix of "There's More To Life Than This".
So buy this irresistible and fun release, and fall in love!:-)
(the cover picture is kawaii too:>)

2.0 out of 5 stars 2½ stars - An okay maxi-single with a few good tracks., July 8, 2008
This review is from: Venus As A Boy (Audio CD)
I was at the record store today and was ecstatic that I finally found this single, along with many other of Bjork's single. Unfortunately, I only had enough money to choose one, and Venus As A Boy was the one I chose. Quite honestly, I kind of regret my final decision. As many Bjork fans know, the album version of "Venus As A Boy" is excellent and one of the highlights of her solo debut disc. This track even caught the attention of Timbaland, who would work with her some years later on her project, Volta. The second track is "Stigdu Mig," a B-side that was not included on Debut. On the first listen, it's interesting. But I really have no desire to listen to it again. It's not even a full song, clocking in at less than two minutes. The Underworld Remix of "Human Behaviour" here is not exciting at all. It's a very bland, by-the-numbers house mix. It's way too long; it's more than twelve minutes, so it basically is a time filler. Maybe the mix works in the clubs, but it's not very appealing to listen to anywhere else. The Non-Toilet Mix of "There's More To Life Than This" is like the album version, except this has a more clear sound without all the hooting and hollering of a club in the background. I like the track much better this way. The Anglo-American mix of "Venus" is exactly what it sounds like. It was tweaked and mixed again to make the track sound less exotic and more ready for American radio. Guitars have been added, as has a cliche drum loop. This mix takes all the beauty away from the song, I think. On this remix EP, the best was definitely saved for last. "I Remember You" is a nice jazz cover by Bjork. Now, usually I am not a huge fan of standards, but I love this. Bjork gives a truly passionate and unique interpretation of the song. On paper, it looks like you're getting the most bang for your buck with this single (six tracks, thirty-one minutes of music), compared to Bjork's onther ones. But it's just an illusion. Most of the material here is filler. The only really good stuff on here that's not already readily available is the mix of "There's More To Life Than This" and "I Remember You." If you're a fan who wants to fill a gap in your collection, go one ahead. But I really don't think this EP is very exciting otherwise.

4.0 out of 5 stars A really good one!, August 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Venus As A Boy (Audio CD)
This is one of the best single of Björk of 1993 . Moreover, there's the lyrics of "Venus as a boy" inside. All the songs are great even if there ate not very "rare"... Just buy it!

One of the essential in a sea of EPs. "I Remember You" is a great jazz standard and the remixes are top notch. Bjork's voice is amazing as ever and she looks extra cute on the cover!
