This book about Venus, the "evening star," will captivate the reader!,
This review is from: Venus (True Books: Space) (Paperback)
Venus, the "evening star," might just be a planet you have seen many times and not even realized it. You can see it at night and sometimes just before the sun rises. This planet is practically next door to earth and unlike the dwarf planet Pluto, which would take ten years to reach, Venus could be reached by spaceship in a matter of months. It is a very hot, cloudy planet with no water. The surface can become an amazing 864 degrees, "more than twice as much heat as you need to bake a cake!"This is a "True Book." In the front you will find two sentences, but only one of them is true. If you read carefully, you'll easily be able to find the true one. One true and unusual thing about Venus is that is has no moon. A few quick facts about this planet are that it is mostly covered in "hardened lava," it is 7,521 miles in diameter, it is the second closest planet to the sun, each day on Venus equals 243 earth days and it takes 225 days to orbit the sun. If you really want to become confused, just think of the fact that "a day on Venus is longer than a year on Venus!" This uninhabitable planet's atmosphere is made up of carbon dioxide. You'll also learn about past and future missions planned for Venus. This is a book that will captivate the reader. It is very well written and draws the reader in quickly. There are numerous full color photographs, interesting facts scattered throughout the book, a time line, a page of statistics, important words, an index, and additional recommended book and web sites. Did you know that Venus actually has clouds that are made of acid?
