5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, good picture
I bought this webcam last night and installed it on a HP Pavilion notebook running Windows ME. The software was easy to install and use, and the camera worked instantly with Yahoo Messenger, Microsoft Netmeeting and icuii. The picture quality was good, even in low light. Overall, I'd highly recommend the Veo Advanced Connect for someone looking for an inexpensive camera...

1.0 out of 5 stars 1 Star is Too Much
I've been using WebCams since 95, and have gone through tons of Cams since the Connectix QuickCam 1.0. That was a great little cam, and even the Color 2.0 rocked. I've been using WebCams since 95, and have gone through tons of Cams since the Connectix QuickCam 1.0. That was a great little cam, and even the Color 2.0 rocked. After the USB hit the market and Logitech bought Connectix, they released the QuickCam VC. This was by far the worst camera I'd ever used.

Tonight, I picked up a Veo Advanced Connect at a steal (clearance at a local store). It looks nice. But after plugging it in, I fail to understand how anyone could make a camera in this class which is actually WORSE than the QuickCam VC!!

Even those pathetic little $8 Pen cams work better than this! Plenty of light, and like everyone else... RED. Having some experience with WebCams (CCD and CMOS cameras in general), I'm used to tweaking settings. The more I tweak with this, the worse it works. At a "resonable" level, the camera is too slow to pick up changes in expression, and if they actually turn their head, you won't see anything for several seconds.

Now ... A lot of people might say that's what they expect, as they're used to lots of cams looking like this over a modem ... But I'm running this by USB 2.0 at 320x200, connecting over a LAN to another computer in the living room! I should have PERFECT clarity!

I cannot stress enough how bad this thing is. In 60 watt lamp light, the best quality I can get is 1 second exposure at 1 frame per 3 seconds. This is so bad, I'm actually looking forward to the sorry 10 frames per second on the five-year-old QuickCam VC.

You can find HUNDREDS of cams better than this Veo trash, all in the same price range.

1.0 out of 5 stars You've Been Cheated, November 27, 2002
By A Customer

This webcam doesn't work with NetMeeting. You can see the video but you cannot get audio. Their marketing materials approach [is bad] since they package NetMeeting on the installation CD to give the impression that the camera works with NetMeeting. The Advance Connect has a built in microphone, but Veo's own technical support pages have the following sentence: "A microphone (not included) and the Veo Advanced Connect Web Camera must be connected to the computer in order to make use of all of the program's functions."They state you need a microhphone connected and side step the microphone tuning part of the installation. Why do the technical support documents for a webcam with with a built-in microphone start with "A microphone (not included)..."? The answer is that the built-in microphone doesn't work with NetMeeting. It also doesn't work with the built-in Sound Recorder that every version of Windows has had since version 3.0 in 1990. If you are considering purchasing this webcam for the video and microphone combination to use with NetMeeting, Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, and many others, then you will lose your money and have to purchase a microphone. THIS PRODUCT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY PACKAGED AND PRESENTED TO GIVE THE WRONG IMPRESSION. IT DOESN'T WORK AND YOU WON'T LIKE IT.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good picture quality; risky setup; inconsistent frame rate, September 7, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Veo Advanced Connect PC Camera (USB) (Personal Computers)
One has to be careful while installing this webcam. According to the instructions, plugging the camera in or out at the wrong time can crash the operating system.

That said, the picture quality (640x480) is great. Sometimes the frame rate drops to (and not just by) 1 or 2 fps (instead of being 30 fps), which can be annoying, but won't make much of a difference while video-chatting over the Internet.

The microphone is not so useful, because you have to get close to the webcam to make yourself audible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Web Cam.. Recommend!, October 30, 2003

I have been with the web cam for several months and I
love it very much. The picture quality is pretty nice
in both online instant message programs and local pic-
taking application. Well, the only thing I would
complain about this camera is the looking: not that
pretty :-) Well, it is not web cam not a decoration for
my room.. So no big deal for me.. And plus I like the
"spider" stander which fits my LCD monitor perfectly.
And you can switch the spdier to a flat stander as well.
I video-conversated with my friends and they are impressed
by my image quality and several of them even got the same
one for themselves..

3.0 out of 5 stars Adequate but nothing special, September 26, 2003

I just purchased this cam from a local store with the reassurance that I could bring it back for a refund. I will be doing that. The camera is a sleek looking little gadget with it's bright blue led and spider legs, installation was a breeze. This is where it stopped impressing me though. The low light performance of this camera is dismal. Be prepared to have a floodlight focused on your face! Motion caputure is also very bad; any movement and the subject blurs horribly. If there is any significant motion the video also becomes extremely choppy. A very quirky thing that I noticed about this camera is that the live image i see is NOTHING like the output image. I see over saturation and a reddish hue and the outputted image looks proper; this is annoying and I don't really understand it. Basically, this camera is a decent cheap webcam, but if you don't like getting your face sunburned from a light 3 inches away, or if you plan on using it for anythign other than bandwidth limiting video conferencing DON'T BUY IT!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this cam! JUNK!, August 18, 2003
This review is from: Veo Advanced Connect PC Camera (USB) (Personal Computers)
I was able to install it quickly and it "worked" OK.

The problem was the picture. It had the worst looking picture I have ever seen on a webcam. I looked in the troubleshooting guide and it said nothing about picture quality. I played with all the settings and only made it worse...

Don't make the same mistake I made!

My husband bought this web cam for me for our anniversary. I was really excited to get it set up. I have had nothing but problems with the set up. All kind of error messages. I still have not been able to get it going. So I really do not know if it works very well or not since it won't install properly. I have never had any problems installing any products I have bought in the past. I am taking this back.

This camera is quite good for the price. Installed it on XP, worked seamlessly. The accompanying software is pretty good too. Remember to check the Veo website for an updated driver.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Veo Advanced Connect PC Camera (USB) (Personal Computers)
Bought this one about seven days ago, looked pretty sturdy, good base and flatscreen support. All drivers worked without problems, was able to do some video chat with friends via yahoo and messenger...

HOWEVER, the video images it produces are VERY dark (even if you have a bright room) and very saturated in RED....

Sturdy design, BAD video images... (i am sending it back..)
