This review is from: Vera Pyle's Current Medical Terminology: A Health Professions Institute Publication (Paperback)
At one time Ms. Pyle's vaunted publication was indispensible to transcriptionists. This frequently updated book was a collection of new terms, products, and procedures that served as an adjunct and update to the more mundane and typical word books, providing a clearinghouse of sorts to the more experienced transcriptionist who needed something other than a spelling for hemoptysis, for example. These days, however, although the quality of the book itself cannot be questioned, its usefulness (for me at least) is far surpassed by a simple Google.com search. While I do sometimes check Ms. Pyle for a term when I'm searching for an unfamiliar phrase, I never find any help there these days. The technology of medicine moves at the speed of light, and consequently this particular type of printed publication is outdated by the time it hits the shelves of your local medical bookstore.

This review is from: Vera Pyle's Current Medical Terminology (Paperback)
This book picks up where the Book of Style leaves off. I would not use it instead of the BOS, but it's a terrific reference for medical transcriptionists along with the BOS. I'm a trainer of MTs and the information also comes in very handy to answer those questions I don't know the answers to right off the top of my head.
