This is a very well written book. The strategies for Reading comprehension, sentence equivalence and fill-in-the-blanks are awesome. Also, the vocabulary list is very well balanced. There are books like Barron's which rely too much on vocabulary - which doesn't work. This book is the right balance of everything. Go for it! Highly recommended.

This book is really helpful for someone who wants to maximize the Verbal and Analytical Sections of the GRE. The methodology used by the author is very efficient and It gives the feeling to continue reading through the book. The one thing that I've found missing in this book is the "Word Roots". I already recommended it to a friend. "Buy it and Maximize your score".

I really liked the book, and the best part was the reading. They are really close to what I saw in the exam.

I have to rewrite my review, because this is a good book and I was seeing the virtues yet until now.

The vocabulary section is excellent. The book divided the words in a pattern you are not feeling tired when learning it, and every list following a New GRE style practices. And I can tell the questions are detailed and well-designed--the correct answer is not just the words you just learned (unlike barron's.)

The writing section is a little simplified from my point of view. But it might work well on exam.

I had admitted, this book has a lot of exercises and hints, so I recommend to everyone. The price is really good for the quality of the book.

I was pretty solid in the math section, but not so much in the verbal. This book was simple enough, had lots of examples, and the word list covered most of what appeared in the test (I studied the most common list and then the second list). This, along the the official GRE book and the Princeton crash course got me a good enough score to get into my first choice university, so I was happy.

This is my first time writing a review, as I never before have felt so compelled to write one (and little did I know I'd be writing it for an exam prep book..!)

But so far, this book is stellar. I'm actually enjoying reading it, because it's written with good humor, is easily comprehensible, and the strategies work.

I just switched to studying with this book because I was studying the Barron's book but the explanation section was seriously lacking (explanations did not go into why other answers that were attractive were wrong, they simply explained what the right words were, for example), and in frustration I tried opening up this book, which I honestly could say was the best idea I've had today.
*Note: I see now that Princeton Review's Verbal book is more focused on strategy and doesn't have nearly as many practice questions as Barron's-- so the two companies are focusing on different things-- they complement each other; just be aware that Barron's explanations can be sub-par.
On the other hand, Barron's New GRE 500 flash cards are spiffy/user-friendly and well-made, with good explanations for the math strategies!

If you're looking to get an edge on verbal in terms of strategy while actually enjoying getting better at it, I'd recommend this book!

Best wishes with studying-

I started my verbal GRE prep with this book. I liked how it went over text completion and reading comprehension in one text, and provided mixed drills at the end. I did find the GRE prep books from Manhattan are more challenging and provide better explanations for reading comprehension questions. However, this book was a great supplement to my studies, especially in providing more practice questions in a "true" test format.

I love the tips and how it steps you thru thinking about answering the problem. The techniques for reading those long dreary paragraphs are great too.

I love the list of the vocab words in the back that I can make flash cards out of.

A friend of mine recommended this book (PhD in History) and I'm glad I followed thru with her recommendation. I am planning to re-take my verbal GRE early next year.
