5.0 out of 5 stars Works w/my Panasonic DMR-ES10K DVD Recorder
I bought these so I could offload my TiVo shows that I wanted to keep forever using my newly purchased Panasonic DMR-ES10K DVD Recorder. It works great. These MCC discs are perfect for video recording. My co-worker loves that he can keep his VHS tapes at home now so when he misses an episode of 24, I can record it to DVD for him :) At Amazon's price of $0.32/each,...

I bought these so I could offload my TiVo shows that I wanted to keep forever using my newly purchased Panasonic DMR-ES10K DVD Recorder. It works great. These MCC discs are perfect for video recording. My co-worker loves that he can keep his VHS tapes at home now so when he misses an episode of 24, I can record it to DVD for him :) At Amazon's price of $0.32/each, it's hard to beat. I'd never pay more than $.40/each though, for any blank DVD-R's.

I've also recently put 4 of my wife's exercise VHS tapes onto a single DVD and it burned flawlessly and the DVD video looks great. I've also begun transferring some of my other concert VHS tapes to these and they again work perfectly.

** My first UPS delivery resulted in a shattered spindle(poor packing in my opinion). Amazon was great though and they shipped out a replacement with 2-day delivery and paid to ship back the busted up spindle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great at 8x!, January 10, 2005
This review is from: Verbatim 8x 4.7 GB DVD-R Spindle (100 Discs) (Electronics)
I have an NEC burner and these discs work great at 8X. Some people buy them because some Verbatim's carry an MMC003 media code and can burn at 12X. The truth is, Verbatim use to make their own media, but now just rebadges them with thier name and are actually made by varied media manufacturers. In the end, you get varied results when you burn faster than what the media is rated, becuase the media is not always the same, even though it was packaged as Verbatim. If you intend to burn at 8x, then these will be fine for your purposes. But if your intent is to burn these at above 8x, be careful, different burners will get varied and unstable results, becuase you'll never know what you'll end up with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Media Quality and compatibility, May 1, 2005

I was a little skeptical at first, based on some of the reviews, but my media checks out as MCC, which is supposedly Mitsubishi Chemical, one of the best manufacturers of quality media. So far, no problems and no coasters. Plays perfectly on 3 DVD players in my house. Only complaint is that the writing surface is not very accepting of my Sharpie. It stays on, but looks like it isn't sticking at all. Media code on these is the same as Verbatim's high-end Data-life Plus series. Very satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Verbatim is the very best., April 11, 2006
This review is from: Verbatim 8x 4.7 GB DVD-R Spindle (100 Discs) (Electronics)
Howdy, I have always used these Verbatim DVDs with my Plextor drives and had very few fail me. If they did fail, it was usually a software or bad setting on my part. Yes, they may cost a little more, but you do truely get what you pay for.

Also, yes, the slower the burn the better. The fastest I will burn on my Plextor PX-716A is 8X; and 2.4X on Verbatim DVD+R DL.

Verbatim media is the very best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not rebadged....., November 21, 2006

This review is from: Verbatim 8x 4.7 GB DVD-R Spindle (100 Discs) (Electronics)
Verbatim is owned by MCC (Mitsubishi Chemicals Corp, known to make the best recordable media). The discs are made by MCC. That's not rebadging? I've never heard of anyone buying verbatim discs that did not code out to MCC, so not sure why the comment about consistency either. Verbatim makes the best DVDs you can buy, according to every utility for burn quality out there. My burns in a Ben-Q 1640 burner at 16x (on the 16x version of these discs, but the 8x are just as good at 8x or even 12x speed) come out with a 96% or 97% score in Nero's Disc Scan. As opposed to sub-90% with halfway decent media, or 60% for junky media.

Having used several top brands (Ritek, Memorex, imation, Leda, Optodisc, etc.) before, I would say the Verbatim DVD-Rs are the most consistently good blank DVD media I've come across. I use them for data, photos, movies, and music - never a problem yet. And in the 100 stack, they were priced at or below what I found for mosty other branded DVDs. I have to recommend the Verbatim DVD-Rs, no doubt about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Discs, August 7, 2005

My review of 5 stars is for the discs and the sometimes available Amazon price of $32 shipped to you door. These are quality discs that retail for about $65 per hundred pack. At that price range one can find Tayo Yuden, an equal or better quality disc (you will find reviews that swing either way) for less. The Verbatim discs have never failed me and are superior to TDK, Memorex, Prodisc, Ritek, and Sony, to name a few.

I always buy 100 pieces spindle, you save money that way, and dvd-r is always cheaper than dvd+r. I think I've buy 2 spindles without a single coaster, Verbatim is a brand you can trust.
