5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, January 11, 2009

I guess you'd have to wait 75 years or so to know for sure if this product works, but I can say that the disks are high-quality (no bad disks) and that they took the data without incident.

5.0 out of 5 stars record and play fine, can't tell longevity for a while, April 26, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These CDs work fine so far. The real test will be whether they still play in 50 years, I hope to be the one conducting that test!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gold Archival CDs, December 10, 2009

I chose these CDs because I wanted to backup photos. Most CDs decline over time, and are thus not good for long term storage. Gold CDs are called archival because they last much longer. Obviously I do not know yet if this will work over time, but I will use these as one more way to protect my digital photos. This quality is not readily available at retail, so I chose Amazon as a good source.

OK. Small print in the center of the CDs indicates these are Archival Grade CDs. This is essential if you are handing them out so people preserve them as an original copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Verbatim Discs, December 24, 2011

This review is from: Verbatim 96319 700 MB 52x UltraLife Archival Grade Gold Recordable Disc CD-R, 5-Disc Jewel Case (Electronics)
I believe that Verbatim makes the highest quality discs out of any manufacturer, I have least amount of issues with burning their discs. My previous computer's (an iMac G5) disc burner got very picky about which discs it would burn without error. The only two brands which it was able to burn near the end of its life were Apple-branded discs and Verbatim discs. I bought these discs for a client who wanted to preserve her father's life story (she had me transfer them from a cassette tape). I don't know if they will stand the test of time, but if they're anything like Verbatim's other discs, I have no doubts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to tell if they will stand the test of time, but are a good price for "gold", July 5, 2011

I've used a lot of cheap blanks in my day. I remember first stumbling upon Maxell XLII's cassettes and remembering how great they were with music...quality you could hear, back then. With digital, I didn't give a lot of thought to the blanks...I thought "digital is forever". Well, yes and no. Hard drives crash. The cloud is still, well, the cloud. How many different media services have you seen start up like gangbusters and go under? So, I always would burn optical backups of programs, documents and pics. Now, in reviewing some of my older stuff, it's clear, that the cheaper blanks I used haven't held up well. It's not like I leave them in a car, or anything, but, even then, some data would be undreadable...some audio-cd's would de-laminate. There is some thought that the "gold" layer on these won't suffer those same problems. So, while I will have to wait 10 years to truly judge, I can say that Verbatims I've burned in the past, have held up well...their dye is quite good. The no-name generics, well, they've struggled. So, it stands to reason that Verbatim's top of the line "gold" standard would do just as well if not better than prior Verbatims.

And while I can re-rip music, my personal documents and photos would be impossible to replace. I no longer have "film" backups to go back to for my pictures, hence my interest in archival quality media.

If I want to trust my data for life, I am sure to keep it in different formats and on different media...anything important, I burn to these archival gold...as some memories, can't be recreated.

Ran out of Archival Quality CD Disks for a project i was working on and placed order on Saturday and received CD's Monday AM by Fed Ex as promised. Saved me since project was due early Tuesday AM. Delivered as promised and price was excellent. Did not mind paying extra for expedited shipment since these archival disks are difficult to find at any retail or office supply stores.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the only brands/lines usable for DVD based GPS, March 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If you are one who wants to keep your GPS DVD safe and copied for your vehicle, this is one of the only brands that works for uses like that. They're known as the premium and most recommended dual layer model for readers in vehicles that are incredibly picky.

This review is from: Verbatim 96319 700 MB 52x UltraLife Archival Grade Gold Recordable Disc CD-R, 5-Disc Jewel Case (Electronics)
I am thus far very pleased with this purchase. I was able to burn pictures onto the discs easily and am thrilled about the idea that these discs will keep my pictures safe for years to come. Of course it is hard to say at this point whether or not that claim holds true, so I made back-ups just in case!
