What is the meaning of LTH?
LTH is an acronym for “Low to High”. This term refers to the way the disc stores data. BD-R LTH media is manufactured with an organic dye that turns the disc's reflectivity during recording from low to high. This method is similar to that used for CD-R and DVD-R. Other BD-R discs use the “High to Low” recording method. The recording layer is an inorganic material whose reflectivity turns from high to low during recording. This is similar to the recording method used on CD-RW and DVD-RW.
Why does Verbatim sell BD-R LTH media?
BD-R LTH media is manufactured using a more efficient production process. BD-R LTH Type media features an organic recording layer, which is applied using a dye spin coating process similar to that used for our premium quality CD-R or DVD-R media. By using this process, Verbatim is able to use our current manufacturing facilities for BD production with only minor adjustments. This process also allows some excess materials to be recycled, unlike other BD-R media where the inorganic recording layer is applied using an expensive and wasteful sputtering process. By converting CD-R and DVD lines we can quickly respond to rapid increases in demand and pass along the savings to you the consumer.
What is BD-R LTH media compatibility for burners?
BD-R LTH media was announced shortly after the introduction of the Blu-ray format. Upon introduction of the BD-R LTH media, key hardware manufacturers like Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic and LG have worked to assure that their burners are fully compatible. If your BD burner is a 2009 model or later it will most likely support recording and playback of BD-R LTH media. BD burners that were designed prior to this time may support BD-R LTH media with a firmware update. Check with your hardware manufacturer for the latest firmware updates. For more specific compatibility information, see our compatibility chart.
What is BD-R LTH media compatibility for players?
As high definition video becomes the norm, more families are enhancing their home entertainment system by adding a Blu-ray player. Top hardware manufactures like Panasonic, Pioneer and Sony offer a number of models that support playback of BD-R LTH media. Panasonic began releasing LTH-compatible firmware for their Blu-ray players in November 2007. Sony's popular PlayStation 3 is fully compatible as of a firmware release version 2.20 in March 2008. For playback on prior versions, simply update your PS3 firmware. Other blu-ray players that are 2009 model or later will most likely support playback of BD-R LTH media. Blu-ray players that were designed prior to this time may support BD-R LTH media with a firmware update. Check with your hardware manufacturer for the latest firmware updates. For more specific compatibility information, see our compatibility chart.
What is the performance difference between LTH and HTL?
Currently Verbatim Blu-ray LTH media is specified to write at 2X so it may write slower that higher speed HTL BD-R. Apart from what we expect performance to be just the same as HTL media and so it will provide the same great experience you have come to expect from the worldwide leading brand of optical data storage media.
