The talent of Badi Assad (pronounced Bah-Jee Ah-Sahj) seems to know no bounds. The Brazilian has won guitar awards as a prodigy and as an acknowledged master, yet she's got an almost Bobby McFerrin-like versatility to her voice and musical heritage that covers the breadth of Brazilian musical styles. On Verde she shows off a little of everything: reaching from nearly unrecognizable covers of current pop songs by Bjork ("Bachlorette") and U2 ("One") to new renditions of Brazilian classics like "Bom Dia Tristeza." Her Brazilian sensuality comes out on the bossa nova "In My Little White Top," and she displays the dramatic flair of a flamenco singer on "Voce Nao Entendeu Nada." Whichever direction she goes, she brings a trickster-like joyfulness that comes when musical mastery is child¹s play Each wrinkle of her musical personality is simply another facet of her inner core. Indeed one imagines that this woman not only dreams in color, but also with a Technicolor soundtrack. -- Tad Hendrickson

Product Description

With her first solo album in six years and her debut on eDGe Music, Badi Assad is back and making it clear that she is one of the most exciting Brazilian guitarists and singers/songwriters of this generation. On her new album Verde, Badi returns home to Brazil, fusing her cosmopolitan experience with her spiritual and musical roots. Her innovative interpretations of Brazilian songs, individual readings of works by artists as diverse as Björk and U2, plus her original compositions reflect Badi's vibrant and sensuous journey through life. The album also features collaborations with some of Brazi’'s most celebrated musicians like Naná Vasconcelos, Toquinho and Cordel do Fogo Encantando. Deutsche. 2005. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, September 22, 2005

This review is from: Verde (Audio CD)
Badi Assad is an unique and heartfelt Portugese and English artist from Brazil, and one of their most talented performers, whose latest album Verde was just released last week. With a captivating voice and terrific classical guitar, clarinet, and percussion skills, her creativity, emotions, and personality definetly shows on the different tracks of her records and allows her to stand out from other artists out there. It is difficult to classify her type of music since it is a mix of latin, jazz, classical, and bossa nova. Each song on her album has a different feel, from soothing and relaxing to playful and upbeat, which in turn gives a little something for everyone who listens to her records. The song "One" by U2 and "Bachelorette" by Bjork are also covered on her album. Badi has also been named "Best Acoustic Fingerstyle Player" and for having the "Best Classical Album of the Year" by Guitar Player Magazine. Check her out at http://www.badiassad.com for clips of her songs and videos and for furthur information.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my faves!, September 14, 2005
This review is from: Verde (Audio CD)
Travelling through germany in April, I happened to see Badi Assad's name on a poster in Munich. Had bought two of her CDs in the past (solo and chameleon) but never seen her live. Turns out she was touring to release Verde. My luck!! It was a solo show, but (wow!) she alone filled the place with sound... it could have been a whole orchestra. She can play guitar with the best, her voice is captivating, and when she goes into mouth or body percussion, your jaw drops. I bought Verde at the show and it's been one of my favorites ever since. The CD has various other musicians playing along with her (cello, clarinet, percussion, bass, among others) all of whom blend perfectly with badi. Very well produced. Love it! Not your typical samba/ bossanova brazilian vocal CD; Badi is one of the best things to come out of Brasil.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Breath of Fresh Air, November 25, 2005

With undeniable skills, Badi will surely gain new listeners. One of my favorites is track #3, "One." Two others I like and can listen to over and over is "Estrangeiro em mim" and "Valse D' Amelia." Listen carefully because each song tells a story-either vocally or musically. The multi-talented artist gives listeners an ear full.

If you're looking for something new and different, take a chance and give this 14 track CD a chance.
