5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, September 22, 2005

This review is from: Verde (Audio CD)
Badi Assad is an unique and heartfelt Portugese and English artist from Brazil, and one of their most talented performers, whose latest album Verde was just released last week. With a captivating voice and terrific classical guitar, clarinet, and percussion skills, her creativity, emotions, and personality definetly shows on the different tracks of her records and allows her to stand out from other artists out there. It is difficult to classify her type of music since it is a mix of latin, jazz, classical, and bossa nova. Each song on her album has a different feel, from soothing and relaxing to playful and upbeat, which in turn gives a little something for everyone who listens to her records. The song "One" by U2 and "Bachelorette" by Bjork are also covered on her album. Badi has also been named "Best Acoustic Fingerstyle Player" and for having the "Best Classical Album of the Year" by Guitar Player Magazine. Check her out at http://www.badiassad.com for clips of her songs and videos and for furthur information.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my faves!, September 14, 2005
This review is from: Verde (Audio CD)
Travelling through germany in April, I happened to see Badi Assad's name on a poster in Munich. Had bought two of her CDs in the past (solo and chameleon) but never seen her live. Turns out she was touring to release Verde. My luck!! It was a solo show, but (wow!) she alone filled the place with sound... it could have been a whole orchestra. She can play guitar with the best, her voice is captivating, and when she goes into mouth or body percussion, your jaw drops. I bought Verde at the show and it's been one of my favorites ever since. The CD has various other musicians playing along with her (cello, clarinet, percussion, bass, among others) all of whom blend perfectly with badi. Very well produced. Love it! Not your typical samba/ bossanova brazilian vocal CD; Badi is one of the best things to come out of Brasil.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Breath of Fresh Air, November 25, 2005

With undeniable skills, Badi will surely gain new listeners. One of my favorites is track #3, "One." Two others I like and can listen to over and over is "Estrangeiro em mim" and "Valse D' Amelia." Listen carefully because each song tells a story-either vocally or musically. The multi-talented artist gives listeners an ear full.

If you're looking for something new and different, take a chance and give this 14 track CD a chance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing voice and guitar - Incomparable !, November 10, 2011

This review is from: Verde (Audio CD)
I have heard Badi Assad recorded and live in concert. She has talent that transcends genres and a sense of humor and fun regarding her music that complements the serious training she has received. Her finger picking guitar style is entrancing. And her vocals are rich and sometimes beyond what one could expect from a human voice. Her "beat box" percussion is more than a gimmick and adds depth and interest to her music. She is both a composer and a performer of other peoples' compositions and does justice to both. This is an older album, but still interesting and not out-dated. I heard her live last in 2010 and she performed some of the songs on this album - not exactly as recorded, but I suspect that she never repeats herself precisely as her artistic abilities don't require such adherence to one way of presenting her music. I recommend those who have never heard or seen her to check out the youtube videos of her doing the incredible combination of vocals, beat box percussion and guitar playing. And once you've seen and heard that amazing display, dig deeper into her music and find how talented and diverse a musician she is.

4.0 out of 5 stars Colorful and sensitive, March 22, 2006
This review is from: Verde (Audio CD)
One of the tunes on this CD is called Feminine and that I found is representative of the whole CD.It is a very delicate collection of songs from this brazilian singer/song writer Badi Assad. Some of them are written by herself and one for example is written by Björk.She sings with a high, clear voice and accompaines herself on acoustic, nylonstringed guitar. Most of the songs are in Portuguese and some in English.A CD perfect for listening to when one needs a break from everyday life. For relaxation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Artist, October 13, 2005
This review is from: Verde (Audio CD)
After hearing Badi Assad's latest album "Verde" from one of my friends, I became a big fan of hers. I really enjoyed the style and creativity of her work. Badi is an amazing singer (both English and Portuguese) and has terrific percussion and guitarist skills. By listening to the different tracks on her records, you are able to realize the passion she has behind her music and it definitely seems to define her emotions and personality behind it all. She is a unique artist who likes to incorporate different sounds and styles into her music to make it stand out among all other songs. I personally enjoyed the cover versions on her record that she did on "Bachelorette" by Bjork and "One" by U2, and "In My Little White Top."
