WELCOME TO LA FENICE IN VENICE, WHERE ERNANI RISES LIKE A PHOENIX FROM THE
GNARLED ASHES OF DEL MONACO'S BULLYING VOICE--AT LEAST HE DOESN'T SOUND WIMPY LIKE TODAY'S TENOR'S DO. THE SOPRANO, BARITONE, BASS, CHORUS AND ORCHESTRA ARE FINE AS IS THE RECORDING. HOWEVER, LOOK FOR FRANCO CORELLI'S ERNANI FROM THE 1060'S TO HEAR HOW THIS SHOULD BE DONE. OF COURSE, THE TOUCHSTONE REMAINS THE RCA ERNANI WITH BERGONZI AND PRICE---EVVIVA!
