Aworthy performance by committed artists,

I was in attendance at this performance, and the recording does it justice. Bergonzi and Millo were both in fine voice as the recording attests.Standard cuts were made but the opera reveals itself to be something special. Queler leads it well, better than many of her OONY performances. The singers keep a true Verdian line throughout. Lombardi had not been heard in NY for many years before this concert performance, and one must think it spurred the Metropolitan to mount the piece a few years later. This CD is a worthwile investment.
