Fine opera; outstanding performances., March 27, 2001

Verdi wrote so many good operas that some, like Luisa Miller, tend to be overlooked somewhat. This is unfortunate, because Luisa Miller is one of Verdi's most beautiful operas. And it receives beautiful performances in this collection of highlights. Surely every opera lover is aware of how oustanding the tenor Placido Domingo is. However, some may not be familiar with Aprile Millo who -- in my opinion -- is the finest dramatic soprano to emerge in the past decade or so. I heartily recommend this CD to all opera lovers -- and, indeed, to all lovers of classical music.
