5.0 out of 5 stars A great verdi otello., August 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Verdi: Otello (excerpts) / Maazel (Audio CD)
I am not actually reviewing the Otello Excerpts, but the complete recording itself. I got this recording on my birthday and enjoyed it since. The orchestral playing is very crisp and clear, and the first act storm scene is interpreted very well by Maazel. "Gia nelle notte" is done very well by Domingo and Ricciarelli, as well as the beautiful duet in the Third act. Justino Diaz does a great job as Jago, the cast is very good. The Orchestra e Coro del Teatro alla scala is very good, the music (as always) is very beautiful, and the booklet comes with the pictures from Franco Zeffirelli's film opera Otello and the synopsis is well-explained, the recording is just perfect. When the complete opera is re-issued, then get that as soon as possible.
