Fascinating!, May 23, 2003
This review is from: Verdon Angster
A fascinating book. Evidently written in 1984, although not published until 1995, Marcus Reichert's strange tale deserves its status as a 'cult classic'. I have been reading his second novel 'The Miracle of Fontana's Monkey', which is being serialized on 3amMagazine.com, and eagerly await each new installment. Although I bought my copy of 'Verdon Angster' through amazon.com, Marcus Reichert's books are still available from burnhillwolf.com and, if you are a fan, I recommend marcusreichert.com too.

Sensational Literary Work, February 24, 2001
This review is from: Verdon Angster
Verdon Angster (by the same Marcus Reichert who wrote and directed the first neo-noir UNION CITY) raises important questions not only about the foundation of identity, but the very mechanisms we use to create our notions of "self." Written with an exquisite attention to language that is reminiscent of Virginia Woolf and Lawrence Durrell and filled with vivid, almost cinemagraphic detail, Verdon Angster chronicles the integration and disintegration of the 16-year-old protagonist against the backdrop of Europe on the brink of World War II. It takes the reader on a provocative and disturbing trip to a place where concepts of time, ethics, identity an reality are fluid and mutable. It is not a journey for the squeamish, but anyone who wishes to explore what it means to be an individual must come along for the ride. It's breathtaking.
