5.0 out of 5 stars Hear of the Seven Striders who found their Fortune in Hell, October 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: VEREHRT UND ANGESPIEN (Audio CD)
This album is taking the style of Weckt die Toten further, straight to perfection. For me, it is the ideal mixture of medieval and metal music, with just the right amount of hardness. The band is made up of seven musicians, with one lead singer, three pipers (playing breton bagpipes most of the time), one guitar, one bass, and percussion (however, all use different instruments now and then). The album starts off with an Old German magical spell, written down a thousand years ago. It also includes songs in German, Scandinavian and Provencal language, and for the first time an English song: "This Corrosion" by Sisters Of Mercy. However, I think In Extremo's version is totally different and much, much better. More _drive_. The best tracks are 1 (Merseburger Zaubersprüche), 4 (a Pavane with provencal lyrics), 8 (a song by Francois Villon picking up the Gallows theme), 9 (This Corrosion) and 12 (In Extremo). I also saw the band live at a concert, and I must say it was the best concert I've ever been to. There is much controversy about In Extremo (a band that makes a lovesong sound like a warchant), but I think they are among the best in the world. Really. Check em out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Genious, April 8, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Verehrt Und Angespien (Worshipped & Spat At) (Audio CD)
I'd like to start off by saying that Rammstein is my alltime favorite rock band, so naturally I am interested in other german metal bands. This CD has been on my recomendation list for a very long time, and I had disregarded it-until now. Currently, Rammstein AND In Extremo are tied for my two most favorite bands of all time. After that comes all the others (Godsmack, SOAD, Staind, Mudvayne, etc.)I can honestly say that this is the most exceptional and creative music that my ears have ever been blessed with hearing. If I said everything that is wonderful about this band, you'd likely age another year before finishing the list. That's how good these guys are, truly. I never lie about stuf like this. Music is sacred, and anyone who screws around with it deserves to eat mud. Anyway, even if you're not a rock/metal fan, you should still get this! Don't let the big bad guitar riffs scare you away(NOTE: I am a die-hard metal and rock fan, so don't let my remark about guitars mislead you, for I have 3 guitars and 5 basses, and I play hard rock on all of them). The other greatest kind of music is celtic(Irish, scottish, etc.) which is another reason this band intrigued me so much. I never thought that bagpipes would work against metal, but it does, my friends, it really and truly does. Right, I've got to stop myself here and now because I can tell that unless I do, I won't leave this computer for hours. So, go out RIGHT NOW and buy this or, better yet, click on the order button up ^there^ and get it as fast as you can. Well, I've said as much as I'll allow myself to say about this miracle of a band, so I leave the rest up to you, dear reader. So good luck, stay in school, don't do drugs, and make the decision you know in your heart you want to make about this musical masterpiece. Fare thee well; I trust you'll do the right thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Fan-friendly band...., April 3, 2001
This review is from: Verehrt Und Angespien (Worshipped & Spat At) (Audio CD)
I have been to several of their concerts now and think that "In Extremo" is probably one of the coolest bands in the world. Not only is their music "interesting" - to say the least, also does their on-stage-show rock. They always have the crowds go crazy. But, best of all: they don't disappear after the concert, they hang out with their fans, give autographs, and may share a drink with you. If you like bagpipes, medieval music and hard rock, then this is the perfect combination. I'm hooked.....

It seems that the only place to buy In Extremo is on-line, where as CDs by bands like Rammstein are in stock at places like Borders. That's just wrong. These guys are beyond awesome. It's ingenius how they mix their heavy metal with mideval instruments, especially the bagpipes! It may sound bad, but it's not. Verehrt und Angespien is brilliant!! The best song is Spielmannsfluch (Minstrel's Curse). It has such a catchy refrain. Ich Kenne Alles (I Know All) is cool too. A really intresting thing about IE is that Das letzte Einhorn, aka Michael Rhein, sings in all kinds of different languages, not just German. Like Rammstein's Sehnsucht, there is a track on this CD in English, but unlike Till Lindemann, Das letzte Einhorn pulls off english very well. Don't get me wrong, I like Rammstein. It's just that I think In Extremo's so much better. Do yourself a favour and buy this CD!

4.0 out of 5 stars brilliant, December 30, 2005

This review is from: Verehrt Und Angespien (Worshipped & Spat At) (Audio CD)
This was my first In Extremo cd that I bought which turned me into a huge fan of theirs. If you don't know these guys play a mixture of rock and medievel music. Their rock sound is a mixture of metal, hard rock and some punk andthey get their medievel sound with bagpipes, the harp, a violin and other types of instruments. The lyrics are a mixture of German and dead languages like Latin, Old German, Old Swedish and there's also a song in English. I would have to say that this is their heaviest cd compared to their other one and it's their 2nd rawest sounding one compared to their first one.

So if you like metal or medievel folk music then you should buy this cd and their other ones. I've let other people listen to these guys who thought that medievel rock didn't sound right but after listening to it they liked it so I'm sure you will too even if you're bit bit skeptical about it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good buy, March 2, 2005

I was expecting something a little more industrial, while the singing/drumming style for this album is a little closer to punk (and I normally despise punk). The mixture of folk and hard rock is still awesome though. Some of it sounds kinda like a German version of Metallica with some cool folk instruments. If you're a hardcore Rammstein fan, this album may or may not be to your liking; there's really no good comparison. If you want something a little more industrial, try Eisbrecher; otherwise you might just want to check this CD out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Folk rock still rocks, October 6, 2004
This review is from: Verehrt Und Angespien (Worshipped & Spat At) (Audio CD)
A terrific sophmore release from the german medival band. Spielmannsfluch is my favorite track. Much better guitar riffs this time around than their first album. Definitly a recommendation for any fan of German music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Melodic Agressive Folk Metal., September 14, 2004

In Extremo is the greatest band in the world, they truly bring tears to my eyes. The spirit of their music is overwhelming and their use of bagpipes, harps, and traditional instruments really stirs up feelings of pride and nationalism. This music is incredibly uplifting. I also enjoyed their albums "Weckt die Toten" and "Suender Ohne Zuegel".

There really needs to be more music like this out there with real passion and zeal. In a time when we have forgotten our European roots and heritage, this band truly seems to be a light in the darkness.

If your a fan of Braveheart this cd is for you. The blend of bagpipes, harps, heavy guitar and drums works great. A few songs don't cut it for me but on the whole a really good cd.
