The bulb gives light which is not as yellowish as standard soft white bulbs, improving the readability of written text. The bulbs themselves are very compact, slightly shorter than a standand incandescent bulb. Turn on time is less than half a second.

The two bulbs come in a container made of thin cardboard that offers little protection. Both the original shipment and the replacement shipment each had a broken bulb. The bulbs do contain small amounts of mercury which is toxic. They probably should be ordered separately so as to lessen the chance of them being damaged by other items in the shipment and prevent mercury contamination of the other items.

I chose this bulb because of the full spectrum and the extra light it would give. After installing two bulbs I turned on my two table lamps in the living room. I wasn't quite expecting such a white-blue light. My plants are going to love it, my mood will be given a lift by it, but the romance factor of the room just went Martian.

For a full-time student and part-time teacher, good light that doesn't contribute to eyestrain is critical. Add the needs of warding off the pall of long, dark, gloomy winters in a rented vanilla box in a student town with no car. I used to feel tired and sleepy all the time in winters, and always craved "more light." Answer:le lamp. I'm really glad I purchased these bulbs. No eyestrain, no sleepiness/tiredness; in fact, the only 'negative' effect is that they actually keep me awake and alert for far too long:) I have to step away from them about 2 hours before bedtime in order to feel naturally sleepy. But I really couldn't care less because they do the real job.

I bought these and noticed I was more awake and alert. I use them in my lamps that I have on in the morning, and do feel more alert after just a few minutes. They have a nice clear light not the yellow light of most of the bulbs you buy. Also great for reading and crafting! I think for crafting they compare to the ott light which is very expensive. I do a lot of hand work and find these bulbs give me enough light to do this fine work.
I am going to recomend these to my friends and family. If you have SAD I would try these first before buying the expensive happy lights.

These use 1/6th of the energy of incandescent bulbs, and are full spectrum, and last about 10K hours? What's not to like?

The lights work very well, the only problem was the first time they came one was already broken. No problem there they replaced it right away; they only owed us one lamp but sent 2 of them & it was good that they did because one of the 2 was also broken.It seems that it would be a lot cheaper for them if they changed the shipping container.

I ordered these even after reading other reviews saying that they came broken. I ordered them with something else and they did,indeed, come broken. Amazon sent me a new pkg. immediately-thanks Amazon cust. service!-and they were all in one piece. The bulbs themselves fit a regular socket, give off pure white light and are exactly what I wanted for my application. I wanted full spectrum bulbs because I'm newly diagnosed with SAD and although they aren't meant to be SAD lights, they do help. I'm very satisfied and will order them again. I also ordered another Verilux product and am happy with that, as well.

I use this bulb for taking pictures, the color is accurate so the WB is exactly like the of the Sun. Next time I should buy 26w ones.

Wonderful lighting. I can't believe that such a dim-looking light could actually turn out to be the best for my eyes. I no longer have to squint and my eyes no longer feel "grainy" after a few hours of reading or using my computer.

I bought these for a home office because I could not see the yellow highlighter on my paperwork under the light from "warm" CFLs. Definitely a much whiter light than you might be used to (the "gas station mini-mart" look that another reviewer mentioned), but you can get excellent results if you put one of these and one "warm" CFL in a 2-bulb fixture. They're the same size as a generic 100W light bulb, so they fit any fixture; but note that they are a bit slower than most CFLs to come up to full brightness, maybe 30 seconds or so.

Beware the miserable factory packaging: a tight-fitting cardboard box with zero padding. I ordered a 2-pack, which arrived with one bulb broken. Amazon took them back and sent a replacement, and again one bulb arrived broken. I'm going to get a third package, but this time I'll hold on to the one good bulb, so I can send back two broken ones. (Assuming they don't send me TWO broken bulbs, which is a distinct possibility.) This is despite plenty of airbag packaging from Amazon -- I suspect they're being busted further up the supply chain.

Compared to Costco's 8-pack prices on "warm" CFLs, these are relatively expensive, but with 50% losses in shipment I suppose they have to charge twice as much.
