UV-C Light Safely Kills Germs

The CleanWave Sanitizing Wand emits UV-C light that has lethal effects on germs and bacteria by destroying the DNA of odor-causing and allergy-inducing microorganisms. This sanitizer virtually eliminates unwanted bacteria, including E. coli, H1N1, MRSA and more.

Quick and Easy to Use

Unlike sprays and wipes, sanitizing with the CleanWave Wand leaves no liquid or chemical residue, making it ideal for sanitizing furniture, electronics and other surfaces that don't tolerate liquids. For added convenience, a built-in timer allows for precise exposure times, while a safety shut-off guards against unwanted exposure to eyes and skin.

What's in the Box

CleanWave Sanitizing Wand, rechargeable battery, AC adapter/battery charger, and instructions.

* Kills up to 99.9% of germs, viruses and other micro-organisms on solid, non-porous surfaces. Sanitizing times and effectiveness for porous surfaces may vary.

** Based on exposure of UV-C light to test organisms in laboratory on non-porous hard surface, under controlled conditions. MRSA refers to Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (ATCC 33592). H1N1 refers to A/Swine/Iowa Swine Influenza A (ATCC 333).

*** Direct UV-C Light exposure is effective on certain allergen producing organisms such as Mold A and in reducing dust mites.

1.0 out of 5 stars It's not magic January 8, 2011
By Nic
The UVC intensity in this Verilux design is so low that for you to truly destroy any microorganisms on a surface you will have to keep it on the surface shining in one spot for over 30 minutes. It does not kill on contact, the intensity of UVC light is too low. In addition, the more you use it, the less UVC is emitted and the bulbs will have to be replaced annually. For you to truly destroy ALL micro organisms (virus, bacteria, mold) on just a pillow surface, you will have to hold the Verilux at every square inch of the pillow for 30 mins at a time. Thus, you would be standing, holding this unit for probably 4-6 hours to truly clean your pillow. You know what's easier, steam cleaning or taking the laundry and washing it. Or using a UVC system design for air treatment installed in your Air Conditioning System. Marketing over hypes the science behind UVC and leads customers to believe in products they shouldn't. This puts a bad name on the UVC products that actually perform, but are priced over $600. I wouldn't waste money on this product or any handheld UVC product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad Battery June 5, 2011
By FrankH
Amazon Verified Purchase
The Verilux Cleanwave Sanitizing Wand that was shipped to me was already partially charged. I believe Verilux sent me a returned unit. I plugged the unit in and charged it for the rest of the day and all night before I used it. The first time I used the sanitizing wand it lasted a little over a hour. When the battery is fully charged it will not remain that way for long unless you use the sanitizing wand immediately. If you wait until the next day to use the sanitizing wand it will only last several minutes. The wand will continue to work if you keep it plugged in while you are using it.

1.0 out of 5 stars I Am Skeptical September 10, 2011
The endorsements I read are all anecdotal, and have the ring of endorsements we see for things like magnetic necklaces or hologram bracelets. The 99.9% figure seems particularly fishy. We have all seen scary articles about the number of bacteria on toilet seats, telephones, and the like, so we know that techniques for assaying bacteria populations on surfaces exist. It seems to me that if one is in the business of selling something that kills bacteria on surfaces, one should actually measure its effect with respect to different variables and publish the results. I'd like to see where the 99.9% figure came from, and how the test conditions differed from, say, 99.0% or 90%. As Homer Simpson said, "85% of statistics are made up on the spot. 14% of the people know that." As to my qualifications for making these remarks, I am a retired chemical engineer (MIT '60). At one time in my career I worked ten years in a research lab. One of my specialties there was experiment design.
