I got a Happy Light about 6 weeks ago, and it has worked very well for me. I've made the mistake a few times of skipping my morning light session and I can always tell by evening - but the next day, after using the lamp, I'm back to normal. I've been dealing with SAD for years and put off buying a lamp, but they are worth every penny.

I noticed another reviewer was skeptical a short time after starting to use the HappyLight. FWIW, it can take a week or so for the light therapy to really take effect. Light therapy is also ineffective for 20% of SAD sufferers, so it may not be a problem with the lamp. But my advice is to give it time - if you're part of the 80% it helps, you'll get there with consistent use.

I ordered the HappyLite about 4 months before they even shipped the product, because it was the first reasonably priced (and sized) light to help treat SAD. Living in Minnesota, I tend to get depressed in February, so wanted to see if the light would help. Starting in Oct/Nov 2003, I began turning it on at desk height at my work for the suggested amount of time. I did not use it on weekends.
Anyway, I think that it helped me keep from sinking so low with the SAD blues in February, but it did not completely keep SAD away. I spent 4 days on the beach in Florida during the 3rd week of February, and that helped the most.
I will indeed use the light again this winter, because it helps--but does not eliminate--SAD for me.

I just got my happy light a couple days ago. I guess it is sorta a given (because the light bulbs are florescent), but I thought everyone should know that sitting in front of a happy light is nothing like real daylight. The experience is very artificial. I'm sitting in front of it now-it kinda feels like a trip to Kmart.
However, the light is also not as bright as I thought it would be. This could be a good thing because I can still sit at my desk and get work done while using the Happy Light. So far I would have to say that it is better than sitting at a desk with "regular" light. I do feel more awake. I'm going to keep an open mind and use the thing every day and then write back later. OOOO if you do decide to get one, check the verilux site first; they are having a special and it is cheaper than on amazon.

Around each November, I become a horrendous crab. It starts around daylight-savings time. It's as if a black curtain drops around me and I remain this way until the bright sun of April rolls around and I see longer days and warm winds. Last year I year I promised myself that I would drop the 200 bucks to get a SAD light. I forgot about it until my husband, who helpfully pointed out that I was in my usual Nov. crabmeister mode, reminded me about buying a light. ON THE FIRST DAY-I found myself not wanting to leave my desk, where I have placed my new best friend Mr. Verilux, and enjoying the work that was in front of me! I feel renewed and not terribly so crabby-it's working! I recommend this lamp to every one who finds themselves angry and hating Nov-Mar in every cold and lousy state they live in! Mine MN.

I have lived with severe depression since I have been 12 yrs. old. I am now 45. It gets worse in the winter, and I live in Wisconsin where 5 months out of the year are generally dark and cold. My husband bought me this light last year, and I didn't use it every day. This fall, I asked my psychiatrist exactly how to use it so I could give it a fair chance and really see if it makes a difference. He said start a month before you think you're really going to need the relief, use it minimally 1/2 hour every day, and keep the light 12-16 inches away from your eyes. He said if you're going to read or do something else, you must make eye contact with the light for one full second every thirty seconds. I started using it and decided to just prop it up on my bent knees as I sat up in bed against the headboard. I found it meditative, and I just relaxed my eyes, looked into the light box and thought about the beach. For the first time in my life that I can remember, when it's dark outside, it's light and sunny in my head. I don't feel like I live in a cave, I have energy and I laugh. IT WORKS. IT REALLY WORKS!!!!!

I have suffered from Seasonal Affective Disorder all my life. My first lamp was one I bought from a competitor 10 years ago. I have got to say this Verilux lamp is amazing compared to the old one. The light is a soft whitish-blue, not harsh at all. When it turns on there is little "warm up" time. The cost is especially worth it...as my first lamp was $250. If you just need a boost during the day try the Mini version. I have one on my desk at work...and it really helps me stay focused.

If you suffer from SAD a light literally changes your world. Every fall I start using a lamp to wake up starting in September. Within 3 days I notice a significant difference in my attitude. Not only that, I have noticed that my thinking is more clear, and especially sharp throughout the day.

I use my Verilux HappyLite Sunshine Simulator everyday while sitting at my desk at work and I can't tell you how much of a difference it makes. Since I don't have any windows in or near my cubicle at work, surrounding myself with the 10,000 Lux of light given off by this product really helps to boost my energy and keep me alert all day strong!

With equal amounts of skepticism and desperation, I bought Verilux's Happy Light on line. I couldn't be happier. This model is pretty big and sits like a satellite on my desk, but it does the trick.

After a few days, I think I mentally fooled myself into thinking it was working. But really, after two weeks, I know it is. When 5 o'clock rolls around, I'm not thinking about putting on my pajamas and calling it a night.

It's absolutely worth the money, so if you're feeling tired and worn out from the cold and lack of sun, go for it. Until the snow and cold make their exit, I'll have my morning coffee and check my email with the Happy Light.

...with this light. I have been using it for several weeks now and I must say that I am impressed. I have had a total mood change and I think the light has a lot to do with it. I turn it on every morning while I am getting dressed and have found that I am in a better mood throughout the day also. I strongly recommend this light if you are suffering from any type of seasonal affective disorder.

I live in Wisconsin where our winters are extremely brutal (it's April 10th 2008 today) & there are still traces of snow & it's 40 degrees out! So, I invested in this product to help me deal with the winter blues. I have been using it for a month now & I feel it is very artificial & almost to bright that it just gets annoying! I have not noticed much difference to be honest. I agree with the comment made that it's kind of like a "trip to Kmart" lol:) But, I have been messing around with it to suit my needs. The directions say not to use it to close to bedtime or at night, but, mysteriously enough (for me) when I use it at night, it does seem to give me more energy & prevents me from falling asleep watching tv at an early hour. So, that is the way I use it now. You also can find this model & others alot cheaper if you order off of e-bay! (sorry Amazon!). Here is a link to the seller I bought it from: [...]. She often has many Verilux products brand new & cheap (no problems). I guess it's worth a shot for anybody, everyone is different & their are many great reviews on here for this product as well. The Verilux people have wonderful customer service & get back to you right away:) Also, this product does NOT have a nasty smell like some reviews I have read. I would still recommend it to try, nothing to lose really with a 30 day money back guarentee!
