5.0 out of 5 stars Best Book Light Ever!
I love this book light! It has survived countless drops to the hardwood floor by me and my 2 year old. It works great with hardback and paperback books. This is by far the best book light I have ever used.

I hold the Verilux brand in high regard as I have purchased and been pleased with their full-spectrum bulbs, lamps, and the popular "Happy Light", which I recommend. However, when I purchased this Verilux Book and Travel Light I found the quality to fall a bit short. It's a cute little item, handy, and very bright on the "high" setting, but I found that the unnecessary "medium" setting functions best as a night light. It requires frequent AA battery changes-once every 1-2 days, but does come with a recharging cord for a computer[like an i-pod has].
It wasn't quite as convenient as I'd hoped. Also with my daily use, the button that slides between medium and high has now broken, rendering it useless, so it has been more of a disposable light for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Clumsy and Dim, January 6, 2009

This review is from: Verilux Natural Spectrum Deluxe Book and Travel Light, Silver (Health and Beauty)
The device is rather large, clumsy to attach to the top of a book, has to be put on and taken off over and over as you read, and does not provide adequate and uniform illumination on the page to which it is attached, nor on the opposite page. Attached to a laptop PC screen, it barely illuminates the keyboard. It's not worth a dollar and is a real disappointment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheaply Made but Works Well with Kindle, July 16, 2009

Overall, I am happy with this and it is the best light I have found for use with a Kindle. I have added some velcro attachments (actually 3M Picture Hanging strips because they make it easier to attach and detach the light than it would be with Velcro) at the top back of the Kindle DX and use them to attach the light. The Light itself has a couple of pivots so it can be adjusted to minimize/eliminate a glare spot. It provides nice, relatively even light over the entire Kindle DX screen. A little brighter at the top than the bottom but not bad at all. I like that you can use re-chargeable batteries and that you can recharge them using a USB connector (provided, as is a carrying case). Only disappointment is the build quality. Just feels kind of cheap.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you have a Kindle, this is for you., February 24, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Verilux Natural Spectrum Deluxe Book and Travel Light, Silver (Health and Beauty)
I bought my fiancee a Kindle for Christmas last year, and she really loves that.
However, she finally mentioned to me how nice it would be to have a reading light to allow her to read in bed or otherwise in low light.
I went about scouring the Net for reviews that indicated which of the scores of reading lights out there worked best for the Kindle.
It didn't take very long to see multiple well written and glowing reviews for this interesting Verilux light that uses a cold cathode tube for illumination.
This is different technology from conventional incandescent, LED, or even fluorescent lights, even though the nature of the lighting element on this Verilux is most similar (at least in terms of appearance) to fluorescents.
However, there IS a difference, that being that this uses a highly efficient low energy version of the same basic technology as that used in conventional televisions.
The result is a tiny tube about the thickness of a pencil lead extending the full 3" across the reflector head that evenly distributes a pleasingly white light for its full length.
The light level is bright, but not so bright that it becomes unpleasant, and has two brightness selections.
It has a very good integral clip that permits it to clip to the top of the Kindle, allowing the illumination to wash the full length of the screen, all the way down to the bottom.
I also like that its slide switch has the "Off" position at one end and both of the brightness selections at the other, instead of (poor design if you see it) having the "Off" between the brightness selections.
Having handled this light, I find myself puzzled at those who mention questioning its durability.
I find it durable without being heavy, and I don't intend to use this to drive nails anytime soon.
Another nice thing about this light is that it uses two ordinary AAA batteries, making it easy to find a fresh set to keep the light going if you run out of power.
A very good idea that Verilux had when they designed this was to allow it to uses rechargeable Ni-MH batteries, charged with the included USB cable.
You can even run the light with no batteries at all, using the USB alone for power, making for a handy way to read while sitting at your computer.
I can make one suggestion to anyone who wants to use this with rechargeable Ni-MH batteries, which is to strongly recommend batteries labeled "Pre-Charged," as those batteries hold a charge while not being used considerably longer than those not so labeled.
The pre-charged variety hold a charge for a couple of months, quite unlike the others, which self-discharge (run down while not in use) at a rate of approximately 10% per day.
My fiancee is quite happy with this outstanding reading light, and I will recommend it to anyone else I know in need of a reading light, be it a Kindle user or an old school cardboard and paper reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent book light, September 25, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

this is an excellent book light. it uses two AA batteries. naturally, you can use rechargeables to power this light. but did you know that you can also recharge the batteries without removing them? that's right. it comes with a usb cable that you can hook up to any usb port to recharge your batteries. you can also power the light without batteries by using the same usb cable. i know that a computer may not be the best way to charge batteries. the solution to this is to use a usb hub with its own power supply. this serves as the usb charging station for all my "charge via usb" devices, including my mp3 player, mobile phone, this light, and a few others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect light for the Kindle 2, July 17, 2009
This review is from: Verilux Natural Spectrum Deluxe Book and Travel Light, Silver (Health and Beauty)
This light is the perfect size and shape and weight for the Kindle 2. We have two of these lights. It has just the right amount of light at the high setting, and a perfect, non-glare pattern on the page.

The batteries need replacing or recharging every few days. We use rechargable batteries, so we just plug in every few days to recharge.

We travel frequently, so the small size and provided carrying bag is very nice. We use a small footprint Phillips surge protector/plug in specially sized for traveling (available at Wal Mart for $22) with 3 standard AC plugs and 2 usb recharge plugs, because we find that sometimes where we travel good plugs are hard to find. This way we can plug in two lights and 2 kindles and 1 phone to recharge all at one time.

Contrary to some reports, we find that the Verilux book light is quite sturdy, as these types of lights go. The only improvement we can think of would be to put a little led light on the light (similar to the Kindle 2) , so that one knows when fully recharged.

We have used our light for about a month now, and are still quite pleased with this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great light for the Kindle, February 18, 2009

Perfect book light for the Kindle 1. It clips easily to the Kindle cover when the cover is folded back. It illuminates the screen evenly and does not cause a glare on the Kindle screen. The USB connection also recharges the rechargeable batteries (sold separately). When I first put my rechargeable batteries in from a fresh pack, the light kept turning off making me think my booklight was broken. I didn't reealize that I needed to fully charge the batteries before first use if they are not already recharged. After recharging the batteries overnight, the light worked perfectly. This is a perfect accessory for the Kindle. Great buy.

This is a great little book light for Night Owls who don't want to disturb their partner. However, the batteries have a really short life. My 1st set last just under a week.

I had my eye on this book/travel light for some time. Having purchased other "reading lights" I was a bit skeptical about purchasing yet another book light and being disappointed again. This is the absolute best book reading light I have used! Wow, even hard cover books pages (both sides) are illuminated at once. A great feature is that there are 2 or 3 brightness settings and it's easy to remove and place on one or the other side of the book for reading ease. Highly recommend this light!
