5.0 out of 5 stars Natural Spectrum Bulbs
I am commenting here because the only review I see here is a negetive one.

I have been a religious user of Verilux bulbs for 15 years. I originally replaced the light bulbs in my basement appartment to combat Seasonal Affective Disorder (or just being moody because I wasn't seeing sunlight much). This seemed to work just fine, though I'm willing to say maybe...

1.0 out of 5 stars Verilux bulbs blow out very quickly!
I have spent a lot of money on natural spectrum lightbulbs over the years. The extra money seems like a good trade off given the better quality of light and the lifetime of the bulb as stated by the manufacturer. However, I have experienced very short lives with Verilux bulbs. When I contacted Verilux, the company stated that there are too many factors that affect the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Natural Spectrum Bulbs, July 12, 2010
This review is from: Verilux Natural Spectrum 60 Watt Frosted Light Bulb
I am commenting here because the only review I see here is a negetive one.

I have been a religious user of Verilux bulbs for 15 years. I originally replaced the light bulbs in my basement appartment to combat Seasonal Affective Disorder (or just being moody because I wasn't seeing sunlight much). This seemed to work just fine, though I'm willing to say maybe it was more perception over reality.

I actually found something more important. First, these light bulbs last for YEARS. 7 years ago I purchased a house. I moved the Verilux lightbulbs that I had for years to the new how with me. NONE of those bulbs are around anymore, but none lasted less than 3 years with constant use and some lasted more than 7.

Homes in Minneapolis, MN have a tendency to have slightly damp basements. When it rains I have a damp spot on one wall. They tend to get a little mold. The full spectrum lightbulb prevents any mold from visibly growing on the basement wall. I would assume that it is also is good for the air, but even better than that, the light they produce is the bright color of sunlight rather than the duller color of standard interior lighting.

1.0 out of 5 stars Verilux bulbs blow out very quickly!, April 22, 2011
This review is from: Verilux Natural Spectrum 60 Watt Frosted Light Bulb
I have spent a lot of money on natural spectrum lightbulbs over the years. The extra money seems like a good trade off given the better quality of light and the lifetime of the bulb as stated by the manufacturer. However, I have experienced very short lives with Verilux bulbs. When I contacted Verilux, the company stated that there are too many factors that affect the bulbs for them to guarantee that they live up to their claims. Sounds like fraudulent marketing, does it not? Stay away from this brand unless you simply have too much money and need to find a way to get rid of some. The company's exact response, as copied from my live chat, follows:

Evelyn: We do guarantee our bulbs for 30 days for manufactures defect. There are so many factors that determine a bulbs life outside of our control that we can only offer the 30 day warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Light; Be Careful, June 23, 2011
This review is from: Verilux Natural Spectrum 60 Watt Frosted Light Bulb
I love these bulbs - I make sure to clean them with windex + lint-free lens cloth after installing them, and they're mostly on lamps that are plugged into UPS batteries (we get brownouts). Between the clean glass and the "clean" power, these routinely last 3-5 years - and they're great for our pet who can see into the UV spectrum. By the time I run out of my stockpile of Verilux bulbs I hope to be replacing them will full spectrum LED bulbs which, at around 10 watts, should replace a 150-200 watt bulb and last for decades.
